Luke was just a malfunctioning clone in Episode 8! Real Luke emerges in 9!!!
The only plausible explanation for having such a lame, cringe-worthy Luke in Episode 8 was that he was a malfunctioning clone. The real Luke Skywalker has yet to be seen.
