did they give IX to JJ to fix VIII?

Think about it the Jurassic dude was set to direct IX then leaves around the time VIII is finished and JJ comes back to do IX.. so maybe a committee decided it was best if JJ come back to fix SW after seeing TLJ as they knew people weren't gonna go with it

I doubt it, Lucasfilm is clueless. Rumor had it Rian was asked first to comeback but declined. But not sure i believe that.

reply

Unfortunately, doubtful. If they thought it needed fixing, they wouldn't be giving Rian a whole trilogy based on his pitch with no ideas other than "A new Star Wars trilogy where some stuff will probably happen."

Wouldn't it be great if it was that easy to pitch a movie? I'll call up James Cameron, say "Hey I have a great idea for another Terminator movie. The idea is this: Another Terminator movie!"

Then Cameron's mind just blows out of his head and he screams "THAT'S GENIUS!!!!!"

reply

C'mon Frog you know it's not that easy. You have to *subvert* the original idea and then ask for a trilogy. So just ring up Cameron and say you want to do 3 movies about Terminators only this time they're metal on the *outside* and they don't want to kill, only to love. THAT's how RJ gets it done.

reply

Oh and don't forget... John Connor discovers that Sarah is not his mother. Turns out he was some kid she found on the street and took under her wing. John's true parents were junkies that died in an alley somewhere with needles in their arms.

reply

Damn this shit writes itself!

OK but we also need to stop caring about the past so no more time travel. You know what's cooler than time travel? Regular travel. We can have the film be one extended chase scene, though as the terminators only want to love now its more of a road trip.

The Last Terminator

Make Arnold drink mechanical milk.

reply

Yeah but they could just say they wanted RJ to do IX and then a trilogy..dosnt mean it was/is going to happen..

It'd probably look bad for TLJ if they were like no RJ won't be back

reply

very doubtful , they gave him the keys to a new trilogy

reply

It might not happen tho

reply

I think the people above (Disney) and below (Lucasfilm) Kennedy understood that she has difficulty working with directors and probably strongly encouraged going back to people who were able to work with her in the past. That explains JJ Round 2 and greenlighting an entire trilogy for Rian on the basis of a vague sentence or two. They are tired of the drama, cost and reputation loss associated with repeatedly firing key creative people.

reply

They should have let the directors do their jobs. Chris Lord and Phil Miller could have made a very very unique, weird, funny and different SW movie. Since nobody wanted to see a younger Han Solo played by someone else, they were the best option to at least create something cool out of it. Now it has Ron 'boredom' Howard behind the wheel. Same probably with Colin Trevorrow. Mark Hamill said he and Colin came to a agreement of the path Colin wanted to take in regards to Luke and the story. So he was happy with it. Colin must have had some pretty great ideas that would have clashed with Rian's TLJ. The only fcking movie they should have intervened was TLJ. They are meddling in all the movies except in the movies that actually NEED meddling.

reply

what people are those they fired?

reply

No, they gave it to JJ because Kathleen Kennedy didn't like Colin Trevarrow having ideas of his own and so she canned him and got someone who was more in line with what they were trying to do here.

I'm trying to go for an entertaining, informative youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. Review right here- https://youtu.be/nerCnafPUm8
