Spoiler: Ruined The Movie in Its Last 20 minutes

If you're going to show the most disturbing scene (scalping and full body dissection) I've ever seen in my many years of watching movies, foreshadow it a bit with a few gruesome scenes earlier in the movie so I know to stop watching the damn thing. I thought I was watching a western not Saw the 13th or some Eli Roth torture porn feature.

Wow. I must be extremely desensitised to on screen dismemberment. Yes it was harsh but not unwatchable.

What really and truly disturbed me was in the love scene Patrick didn't bare his glutes.

Now that ruined the film.

This was the most gruesome scene you've seen in your "many years" of watching movies? Stay away from the horror genre on Netflix lol.

reply

Calling this film "torture porn" might be a bit excessive, but that scene did surprise me quite a bit, one that pops up in my memory even after months viewing. Was a great scene, imo, and gave us viewers all the more reason the dehumanize the trogs and root for the posse and Mrs. O'Dweyer.

reply

There were forshadowing scenes: 2 different people getting their intestines torn out of them.

A film involving canibles what did you expect. Plus the film is an 18 too so you should be well prepared for some gore. I for one enjoyed the film. Yes a slow burner but it still had me hooked because of the good acting. It was also a unique take on a western.

Asinine argument. If I watch a romantic movie should I expect to see explicit sex scenes? If I watch Holocaust movie should I expect scenes graphically depicting atrocities? If I watch a movie about a character who has an abortion should I expect to see a depiction of an actual abortion, blood, tissue and all?

reply

I had to look away, then fast forward it. Seriously, I was like WTF IS THIS?!?

reply

I knew it was going to get pretty graphic, but maybe I should have warned my fiancée

reply

what more warning did you need?? we knew they were cannibals, we had already seen two people get their guts ripped out... it seemed that worse might yet be to come...

plus, even though it was a gruesome scene, it could have been even more graphic... it was in low lighting, and happened pretty quickly... it could have been in the bright of day with nasty close ups of what was going on....

anyway, I think the gross scenes were just right in this film, not too many, but just enough to add the sense of horror and dread.

reply

The movie opens with a guy getting his throat slit, shows another guys leg with a bone sticking out and another guy have his hand almost amputated - all before the scene you mention. I think there was a fair amount of warning it was a gory film.
