Dull and awful

I saw this at a film festival recently. Don't bother. It's dull and absolutely uninteresting. The characters are poorly developed. There is no insight into what motivates any of them. It's basically just a series of events in Turner's life without telling any story about him.

The most interesting character in the film was the painter Haydon, but he's only in three scenes.

"wretched and abortive" like someone said about an art piece in the film :)

I do agree with you but I still enjoyed the film.. If there was better character development and more narrative then it could potentially be amazing. Still I rate 6.6/10

Wish I'd read your comments first before I started watching it On Demand. I read that James Norton is in the film, but I bet he doesn't appear until much later. I'm 10 minutes into the film and am already doodling on my IPad. Ugly people, crummy costumes, bad teeth (mentioned above on this thread). But I will stick with it, as painful as it is to watch, cause I've paid for it. Turner's paintings are nice to look at. This movie, not so much.

James Norton appears around 32 minutes into the film. He plays a flute, and his scene lasts less than a minute.....and he doesn't even get a close-up. Mike Leigh probably was offended by his male beauty. This is the first Mike Leigh film I've ever seen. Does he always work with, uh, less than beautiful actors? I admit I've been ruined by Downton Abbey, where esp. the men are very good looking. They even added Matthew Goode as Mary's possible suitor. That's more like it! Was Mr. Turner funded by the UK government? I'll quit crabbing now and go back to watching the film. If I have offended any fans of Mr. Leigh's fans.......deal with it.

I had high hopes for this movie but unfortunately it was indeed very very boring. I couldn't bare watching it anymore after 30 minutes.

I lasted about 20 minutes.

Then it was either turn it off, or kill myself.

Easy choice, really.

I am pleased that I bought this mess cheaply in a supermarket. (Mainly because of the 'superlatives' on the sleeve.)

Confused, jumps from place to place, no characterisation, poor casting, wooden acting. I watched the first hour, fast forwarded the rest & sent it to the charity shop.

An uninteresting life makes a dull and awful (and boring) biopic... no matter how much fame as an artist one was/is.
