Fuqua's Masterpiece

This is going to give Tombstone a run for it's money, you just wait and see.

Fuqua made exactly one movie that can be considered great - Training day.

His other movies are usually decent and perfectly watchable, but that's it. If you expect Magnificent seven to be something special, you're being way too optimistic.

Nothing wrong with a solid popcorn movie mind you, I just think expecting something on the level of Tombstone for example is pointless.

I was there during production. It's gonna be phenomenal. Trust me.

The previews have lots --and lots-- of things blowing up (blowed up real good).

You were a crew member on this movie? That's awesome!
To be honest, being there during production doesn't guarantee you'll know it's gonna be good; I think you have to be there during post-production to know that. Not that I don't believe you, I think it looks great. I'm just saying, you never know what the editor(s) will do.

I've seen nothing but amazing work from the cast and crew. I have seen the footage at video village as it was happening. It's going to be so cool ice will need a new name.

And the thing about Training Day was the twist at the end. That was basically the selling point of the entire movie.

We were led to believe in Denzel's shtick, his monologues and his philosophy, his self-justified criminal behavior. When we get to the end of the movie, the people basically said, "Ok, we've had enough of THIS sh*t", and took care of it. THAT was the great in that movie.

Beyond that... Not much great, really. Good. Not "great".

Almost every scene in THE GODFATHER has "great".

So, am I thinking this remake/retread/re-do is going to be "great"?

Since this will be the third time they've done it, and the first one (SEVEN SAMURAI) was considered "legendary", while the second one was considered "really really good"... And considering today's marketing strategies and consistent patterns of remakes...

Nah. It'll be over-the-top flash bang bing boom. Big deal. We've seen it before, and done better. So nope. It'll probably be just another remake.

You didn't come here to make the choice, you're here to understand why you made it.

This.

What a great idea...wonder why no one has thought of that?

I love Tombstone. Watch I t any time it's on at any point in the film. But I never considered it a high cinematic achievement per se..I'm looking forward to seeing this Washington / Pratt 7 as much as anything coming out the rest o f the year. I bet it's gonna be a kick ass good time - like Tombstone or Silverado..

As good or better than Tombstone? Not likely, not from the previews I've seen. The fact that Tombstone is based on some historical event that actually happened and on real people give it more weight. Also, the script has lines like "go ahead, skin it, Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens", Kurt Russell's mustache, Powers Boothe, and an incredible Val Kilmer. Tombstone made a real effort to be historically accurate, or as historically accurate as possible for Hollywood. All these jazzed up revisionist remakes just do not live up to any long shelf life IMO.

I totally agree

George P. Cosmatos put a lot of detail into the film, almost to the point of being flawless. The acting was perfect by all. Even the extras were perfect. The list of things Cosmatos did, goes on and on.

It's hard to see that much effort being put into anything current again.

I would rather compare it to 'Silverado' than 'Tombstone', to be honest. It looks lighthearted, and I love Fuqua's action scenes, so I think I am going to have a good time with this.

I doubt it because Fuqua made the same mistake as they did in Wild Wild West with the use of the Gatling gun. It looks so ignorant to me versus just using pistols and rifles. I was let down by this film's trailer, when they introduced the Gatling gun.

it's a pointless remake of a remake

reply

This comment was a pointless exercise in commentary.

reply

well you you win today's wit award.

please explain why my comment was pointless when, as far as I can see it fulfilled its function, to deliver my opinion of this remake of a remake, admirably?

reply

Well seeing as how I've read the script, worked alongside all the extras and actors, and have seen the footage first-hand the Practical effects and some of the visual effects as well I can tell you without a doubt this movie is going to be amazing. So your comment about it being a remake is untrue when in fact it's a rehashing of a movie not a remake, there is a difference. There was a lot of work put into this movie from a lot of very very talented people in the camera Department, in the art department, and the directing staff, the talent, the production value, the special effects, property, etc etc the list goes on and on, this movie is going to be amazing that's what makes your comment null and void because I have first-hand knowledge and you do not.

reply

Is that not true for every single big budget studio movie whether they are good or bad. A lot of talented people working on an "amazing" script. People who worked on Transformers and John Carter would have all made the same comments.

reply

so it's not a remake, despite being a remake, because your friends are involved?

I suspect that those who worked on Gigli thought it was better than Citizen Kane.

Your first hand knowledge of the those involved ironically makes your opinion worth less simply due to your bias.

reply

It looks amazing. By far the one I'm looking the most forward to as the summer winds down.

I don't know man. Few westerns are as cool and collected as Tombstone was. Modern ones that is.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.
