One unfortunate flaw

This is a well-acted, absorbing, and touching story which is impaired by A TERRIBLE PRESENTATION OF THE SUBTITLES. As near as I could tell, the subtitles of foreign-language dialog were fine in terms of content, but they were inscrutable because of the way they failed to stand out from the complex background.

Unfortunately I don't know how you fix this. If they had put a big black or white background block behind the subtitles, it would have spoiled the impressive visuals of the scenes. I do think they could have improved the readability by using block characters with a contrasting outline.

Moi aussi!

Boooo to the subtitle guy.

I spent so much time trying to make out the writing I lost out on the actual performances. It was a royal pain in the @rse.

On the bluray the subtitles are fine.

Yeah we had to keep pausing to read them. Glad I didn't see it in the theater.

I watched this movie on Netflix.
Subtitles were fine.

Me too. I just finished watching it on Netflix and the subtitles were fine. I made out everything.
