Anne Hathaway was too beautiful for the role

This should have been cast with an average-looking person, the kind of person who actually does start-ups. It would have been a more interesting movie to see what she was up against. Also, what was up with Anne's bright red lipstick even when she was in a robe at night?

reply

No. Anne Hathaway was perfect for this part. Her and Robert De Niro had great chemistry together. Very much like a father/daughter relationship.

As with the lipstick. Red is color of power. On a subconscious level. Jules wanted to let everyone know that she was in charge and work and at home.

Look at it when Ben picked her up in the morning. Ben was drinking coffee with her husband and daughter. And they were just talking. Jules comes in. The first thing she did was hand off her dry cleaning to her husband and tells him what each one needs. Then she grabs her daughter's bowl of cereal (that she just started to eat) and placed it in the sink to take her to school. Not once did she say good morning or hello to her family. And Ben noticed that.

Oh please tell me more jack azz.

That is always a problem with just about every role she gets. Other very-good-looking women can dress down, get dirty, even play the villain. She never does.

Les Miserables. It literally means The Miserable and Hathaway's character was the most miserable of them all.

That's the problem with absolute statements. It only takes one counter-example to destroy the argument.

reply

I haven't seen that one. Was it any good? Was Hathaway any good? Was she sufficiently ugly, so that one forgot that she really wasn't?

reply

She won the Oscar. Watch it and decide for yourself.

You're 100% wrong. People who start up fashion or lifestyle companies tend to be really hot. I know quite a number of them personally, since my husband works in startups. She's actually the exact right amount of pretty for the role. She's not supposed to be a computer programmer, she's a business grad and fashionista!

reply

In fashion and PR nonsense type startups the women at the top are good looking and come from often wealthy or privileged families. They leave the details up to male and female grunts to work out the details of their vision.

Yes, I know you just happen to have read about an exception to that rule somewhere.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

I was actually impressed with how realistically she was groomed and dressed. Most of the time, she's in cute and modern but utterly wearable clothes and shoes. She's not wearing 3kg of make-up and her hair isn't immaculately blow-waved. She's naturally pretty, but in a somewhat nerdy way.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to not see a heroine strolling around in pencil skirts and insane torture devices on her feet. Jules actually dresses like a human being that aims to be productive all day.

reply

She is shown wearing too much makeup considering how busy she is and don't have enough time to sleep. Agree on wardrobe and footwear.

reply

Yeah.

I don't understand why people think if an actress/actor is too good looking, they're miscast-ed. What does have to do with their acting? I thought Anne was perfect in this movie. She has great acting.

reply

She is good-looking? She is a ventriloquist's doll, for chrissakes.

^Heh... and then you have those that will disagree with the belief that she's beautiful to begin with.

I thought she looked good, but as far as I'm concerned it didn't make the film any more unrealistic.

You want something corny? You got it!

reply

lol good one. Anne Hathaway isn't even average looking.

The Jules character reminded me of Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, who is quite beautiful.
