They only find out that she was last seen getting into a car. So do we assume that she ran away with someone? Or is there some other deep message that I failed to understand?

She followed him out of the house..
He could have led her out in the back forty, got her lost cause he was mad at her for being forced to move to a new town..
Dust storm hits, they both are lost and wandering..
Cops looking in the wrong area..
Dad finds boy by luck..
Boy knows sister is probably dead, so too late anyway..
Says she got in a car that he couldn't see because it was too dark..
This being a kid who spends a lot of time in the dark, and couldn't manage to say anything at all about size, shape or squat..?
Maybe to save his own ass, maybe to offer parents hope he says she got in a car..
Her voice and words are always shown from that desert area.. Camera lingers there at end like maybe that's her quiet place now..
Mom was a bit wild when they met, but didn't seem threatening..
Dad is a repressed stressed ass, but cares..
Or she went to the concert, feels guilty and is calling and hanging up on mom, so she too can feel abandoned.. I think that's the more likely scenario..
Joseph was a bit off, but I've never thought he felt organic in his roles..
Nicole was good, if not a bit over the top as usual, tho that's certainly partly on writer and director..
Hugo was great as always..!
I gave it a 6, because I don't care for slice of life movies..
