Don't get me wrong. I do not give FSOG 10/10, but 4/10 overall. Really? The worst thing about movie is laughable script, but the directing and cinematography is quite all right. We also got decent acting from Dakota who is believable despite the horrible dialogues. The sound mixing and soundtrack is great. I have seen many *beep* movies got even 8/10 on IMDB recently, which only got good ratings from male-centric fanbase somehow.
The recent ghostbusters is not that bad either. There is a real bias against these movies with female marketing. I'm not talking that FSOG or Ghostbusters are feminist movie, but it seems people just dislike it for being marketed toward female audience. Urgh.

While i agree Ghostbusters is being targeted by spiteful men, FSOG is a bad film and deserves that rating TBH! I briefly looked at other films marketed for women The Help, Me Before You, The Notebook and they've scored 7 upwards, plus new film out in the US "Bad Moms" is performing better than expected at the BO and that has good reviews here too!
I'm male and I didn't rate it, because IMDb ratings are pointless to me. If I were to do so, I guess I'd give it a 2, so you're probably happy I didn't. It's really a very bad movie, though, no matter what demographic is being targeted.
Well isundling, if it were about looks and personality, I'd definitely rate you (and your nemesis Mya) a 10! You're still my favorte girls! ;) But in all seriousness, the imdb rating system has been controversial for years. They have a weird system of scoring movies. The algorithm is too confusing to even grasp, and I remember when some movies had high ratings and others had low ones, but each were on the Top 250 list.
One of the best examples is when "The Usual Suspects"--a movie which I hate because of its cheat at the end, though I love Kevin Spacey--was considered the #1 or #2 movie of all time on imdb. (And it probably still might be, for all I know.) Well, that's just ridiculous, and imdb knows it. So they then had to change their system to where it wasn't just about fan voting, but also critics, and also the fans' voting history and credibility (because nowadays these millennials rate every damn thing halfheartedly and go chat with their friends on Facebook the next second). I think Roger Ebert even wrote an article on imdb's rating system, which is worth checking out.
Isundling's point--"anyone can rate the movie even if they haven't seen it"--is very true. But it works both ways: potential fans of a dumb movie like FSoG can rate it highly even have never seen it, while others who hate the f*king stupid book (like me) will rate the movie badly even before seeing it. But unfortunately, that's how the system works. And imdb is actually pretty good at rating movies (though I'll never understand the algorithm until a get a mathematical genius to explain it!)
Isundling, keep in touch, and let us know if you finally admit that those books suck and the movies are (somehow) even worse!
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading!
Have you ever rated a movie up or down without seeing it?...me neither...
As for you being so determined to sway me from loving 50 Shades of Grey series of books and soon to be movies...never will happen...
To my dying day...my last breath..in fact, I have written in my last will and testament, to put both the books and movies in my coffin...and use the Soundtrack and Score from all the movies to be played at my memorial.
But why would you have those books and movies around, when there are so many better around? Is that series so "great" of a series that you want it to be in your coffin? Trust me, my dear isundling, there are plenty of better books and erotic movies out there--that would put FSoG to shame. Maybe we can chat more about this one day!

no it's not. it's just that you have to look at it in the spectrum of a softcore porn film with a classy erotic quality. so, it's a softcore porn film that is suitable for the big screen. if you compare it to that genre then you will find that it's a really good film, it's an 7 out of 10 film. it's not perfect but it does most things right.
As a woman, I hated this movie. It was the typical poor girl meeting a rich, interesting and mysterious man. He is a stalker but Ana takes this as a sign of love. She may be curious about his BDSM lifestyle, but that doesn't mean she has to accept that to accept him. Steele's talking Ana's virginity is mechanical; something to get out of the way so that he can get on to the BDSM with her. It wasn't the lifestyle that turned me off _ it was the lead characters! I like sophisticated books and movies, but the book and movie were terrible!
It's not about female centered things, btw movies like Alien and Aliens are in Top 250, so is Silence of the Lambs and I could go on... but this movie/novel is a joke both making and background research wise.
I'm glad that being a rich, abusing, and even wife-beating man is a "female centric". Thank you hysterical, irrational and contradictory feminism for ending women rights overall.
