Not Returning for a Series 3

I'm sorry to report such tragic news but ITV announced that THE BLETCHLEY CIRCLE has not been commissioned for a third series and won't be returning.

It's such a shame. As an American guy, I loved this series since (oddly enough) I was a fan of Nancy Drew and Marple. This was an excellent series that should have been shown a bit more love :\

Hopefully ITV will reconsider this decision but as it stands now, no third series.

Yup! Last night, when I was watching the show I was thinking.. we only have one more episode to go! When they were showing the behind the scenes with the actors, writers and etc.. I was thinking.. what's the point, it's not being renewed. When I like a show or movie, I can't get enough of the extras, but with this show it was like a stab in the heart!

some decent shows getting cancelled,yet dreary soaps now getting 2 slots a night and a weekend omnibus.coronation st,emmerdale,eastrenders are well past their sell by dates.

It sounded as if the ratings were good so any idea why it was canceled?

I believe it was mainly due to the fact that Anna Maxwell-Martin didn't want to return, and they decided to cancel instead of try to continue without her.

Personally I missed the second series so still waiting for a re-run... However I do know that Anna wasn't in all (?any) of the second series, and from the titles of some of the threads it seems the 2nd series wasn't as good as the 1st (I haven't read them so as to avoid spoilers).

So if that was the consensus opinion, then it makes sense to have cancelled. But what do others here think?

I can't really say one way or another on the basis of just the first series, but maybe those of you who have seen both will have a better idea. But I loved the first series and was disappointed to hear it had been cancelled.

Anna is in both halves of "Blood On Their Hands." Her husband and children are in the cast as well.

I stumbled across series two on the internet this week. I had NO IDEA that a second series had ever been made, so I'm tickled pink about that. When I saw Bletchley Circle two or three years ago, it looked like a one-off miniseries to me.

I discovered the series after it was cancelled and what a shame that was. Great show. 😃 Season one was good and I like how season 2 was made up of two different cases. I guess if the show was still going on each of the women would eventually bring a case for the group to solve, since we had Susan, Jean and Mille do so.

And hopefully Susan would've returned.

Look at the ratings on this show! It was good. So why did they cancel it? I suspect because all the main characters are women and there is little or no T and A on display.

Oh, no! I hadn't heard.

The show was not necessarily "great," but it was different and always interesting.

I'm soooooooooo disappointed.

Very disappointed. Considering the Alan Turing movie is coming out, I'm surprised they cancelled it.
