Did anyone ask for this reboot? I would much prefer Ron Perlman return.

I'm sorry, but Guillermo del Toro knew what he was doing with the first two movies, and he had a plan to finish off the trilogy... But did the studios give him the chance?

And now they're churning out another rebooted series instead of new original content... Not to mention the dreaded White Washing we all get sick and tired of seeing in films.

In my opinion, Hellboy is not going to be Hellboy without Ron Perlman.

Ron Perlman doesn't want to do it anymore. Get over it. The movies were ok but they weren't great...

Del Toro's vision and Perlman's casting in the original feels like pure perfection that shouldn't be mess with it. But, as faithful and unique as those movies are, I think they lacked something and did have the potential of being better. Granted with all this excess of reboots and remakes these days, hearing about a new Hellboy can make one roll their eyes.

Having said that, I must say that I'm excited about this new cast. If the movie has the slightest bit of chance of improving over Del Toro's movies, then I happily welcome it. Perlman was made for Hellboy, but if there is one actor out there I can definitely see nailing the part, it's definitely the guy got.

On a side note, after recent events, it looks like we don't have to worry about the white washing part anymore, although I bet a big chunk of the "anti-PC" crowd are certainly not pleased with it.

Hopefully, starting with this movie, they can start making realistic and appropriate casting choices. Daniel Dae Kim would be perfect for the role.

But will Abe Sapien make an Appearance? And I liked how Johann Krauss turned out in the second movie.

While he never comes out and explicitly says it, Mignola wasn't particularly pleased with the Del Toro films, especially the second. This is supposed to be closer to the source material with Mignola and Christopher Golden actually working on the screenplay.

I like the movies but I like the comics better. It will be great if they make a good Hellboy movie as we'll have it all then. Like having the batman movies with Keaton and the ones with Bale. If it's crap (a fitting term :-) then we'll still have the good stuff. So I applaud them. Ron Perlman was excellent, indeed.

Foo. I liked the first two very much, and think that GdT did a lot with the material. And in the H2 commentary track he said that he'd been unable to get financing for a 3rd film, I guess someone else did.

I don't think the odds of a different director getting more out if the same material are that great.

Yeah, I also thought that remark was rather misplaced and stupid. Hellboy is RED after all.

I was sorta hoping this would be called BPRD so that the focus could be spread out over other members of the organization and maybe lead to sequels that don't have to be all about Hellboy. I love the comics and enjoyed all the movies (check out the animated ones. They are exceptional)

The first HB movie was great! It was a fine mix of Lovecraft with a comic book feel. The actors were cast well (White Washing?!?) and I liked the interpersonal play between all the characters. I also think they captured the tone of the original comic stories.
