Ray becoming sloppy?

Marisol was drown in a bath tub. As a result, she has chlorine water in her lungs. Then Ray dumps her in a lake - I think it's the Reservoir in LA - which has no chlorine. The autopsy will show she didn't drown in the Reservoir.
Is Ray getting sloppy or too preoccupied by the Russians?

reply

I haven't noticed it. Who are you talking about?

reply

Did you watch episode 10?

reply

Sorry. My first response posted to the wrong thread. I agree. The way they handled the Marisol cleanup didn't seem very Ray Donavan like.

reply

What are YOU talking about? Haven't noticed what? The death? You're not making sense.

Don't get too high. You might drink the bong water.

"What would you like to see on your honeymoon, Mrs. Cord?"
"Lots of lovely ceilings."

reply

Depends on if they actually test for chlorine. Salt water vs. lake water? Sure.

She's a likely suicide, not sure they'd look for more. This isn't CSI.

reply

I thought about it because a woman in her 70s was found dead in a lake 100 yards from the Cineplex I goes. They tested the water in her lungs and it had chlorine. I live in the UK. I think they always test the water in the lungs to see if it matches the water where the body was found.

reply

Yes, makes sense that they might. In this case, there would also be soap, etc. So who knows.

As well, much of Ray's "fixing" often needs "re-fixing". That's why I like the show: not everything goes to plan. As mentioned, maybe he's distracted by the Russians. Stay tuned.

reply

In a case like that, they may have tested because her death was mysterious and not easily explained. Like, "How in the hell did this woman in her 70's end up dead in a lake 100 yards from the the Cineplex?" In this case, she was known to be a drug addict who just left rehab and outed herself in public for having a long time incestuous affair with her half brother. Who seemingly abandoned her car at that site with a suicide note. So I'd imagine that in real life they'd take that all at face value and move on. No autopsy, those aren't automatically done in every death that occurs.

I also imagine that he put her there instead of leaving her in the tub so that the violence of hitting the water could explain some of the marks on her body, instead of looking like someone violently drowned her in the bathtub. As well as the possible decay of her body in the meantime until they find her.

My father is a physician. There is an autopsy for every death outside a hospital: unless someone dies in a hospital from a known cause, there's an autopsy even if it's an old person who died in her sleep.
The grand-mother of a friend died in her sleep at 82. Autopsy. She had a breast cancer and died of it and her physician missed it when she complained several times of pain in the upper right back.
In this case, after Marisol revelations on TV, there will be an autopsy. That's 100% sure.

reply

It might depend on the state. My 92-year old father died of a massive heart attack in CT (I was there). The ME didn't even need to come to the house (the police/EMTs were present, however), and he gave me a death certificate number over the phone. I was able to have the funeral home come directly to the house.

reply

My mother in law as well. She had congestive heart failure, the cops called the doctor who said due to her health and the medication she was on, unless the police had reason to believe otherwise, he'd issue a death certificate citing natural causes. The funeral home took her to the crematorium that evening, we had her ashes by morning.

All of this 'sloppiness' is not Ray's fault, it is the writers' fault. Every week they pull something new out of their ask, with no relationship with anything else. First two seasons of Ray Donovan were not bad, then it became a family soap opera, making less and less sense from show to show. Typical pay cable trajectory which most suffer from, including the Sopranos, Sex and the City, The Wire, Deadwood, even Billions, which has had just one season to demonstrate that it has run out of gas. BTW notice when Jon Voight and Bunchie knocked over Buffalo Bill's house and robbed his safe a few weeks ago, Bunchie left enough bloody fingerprints to convict a dozen people on the safe. It is just poor writing, as if there is no proof reading for the sheer implausibility. That's show-biz!

That's what I wondered too: is it Ray or the writers?

The first season was amazing. After the finale, I remember that I told my husband "and now what?". It could have been a perfect mini-series with only one season. Season 2 was good. Season 3 average. This season is awful.

Oh yes I noticed that too. But I'm in the UK and I couldn't come to the board as we were a week late. As RD was on break in the US and not the UK, I can now come to the board without being spoilt.

reply

Yeah that was my first thought as well. And in a previous episode he shot the Russian in a warehouse where there might be cameras (oh and look at that, there was). And then he dumped a body right in front of a police station. Ray must be a teflon man because nothing seems to stick.

reply

No offense to your idea... But Ray had been working in LA for years.you think he cant get records changed? Hacking computers. Would be common in his work... And he probably has an M.E. he has done a favor for.. Or who owes him... You get my meaning?.

reply

Heck, Ezra's old lady didn't even know there was a safe! I'm bettin ole Ray has a lot of aces up his sleeve - altho he can't seem to pull one out for that dip sh*t family of his.

This ^^^

He's got leverage in the FBI, at the coroner's office, at the news outlets, etc... fixing the story about Marisol is hardly the most challenging "fix" Ray's ever done. I think what he's done so far is just, "step 1" in a few steps it will take to put an advantageous spin on it all.

Susan, "but I was thinking..." Leo, "STOP! Thinking is for losers!" - Scandal's satirical message.

reply

I get your point but he wasn't sloppy like this in previous seasons.

reply

Maybe ray himself is slipping I mean he has done bad things for 20 years..guilt is a tough load to carry... It was not so long ago he was preparing himself to go to prison... Remember the 3% of the football team he was trying to get? It looks to me that he has neen looking for a way out of the life for a while... Maybe deep down he dont care about getting caught...

reply

What didn't make sense was Terry going there and, believing she committed suicide (or accidental drug overdose), and calling Ray. Ray is a fixer, so what did Terry want "fixed" if he didn't suspect foul play? Didn't make sense.

reply

Not only that there would be bruising on her neck consistent with fingers.

reply

He didn't strangle her. He held her down. But still perhaps bruising somewhere else, like her scalp or whatever.

Terry...in what time he has left.. And with his illness who knows.. Has been trying to ....make something ..like the young kid he has taken from the street to his gym. And trainging the former champ was supposed to put his gym on the map. Terry..for all his strength and character is a bit gullible. I dont think he wanted to think the guy killed his sister...of course keep in mind he is sick...that alone would mess with your mind. But whether he believed she killed herself or not.. They cant have more negative attention. They needed it FIXED
