Who doesn't want season 5 to be the last?

I'm aware that too much seasons can kill a show (True Blood, Dexter) and that quality is best than quantity, but why can't we get both? GOT is at season 6, TWD will start 7 and they're still good (Some ppl won't agree on TWD, but I still like it). BM could easily go on, with only 10 eps/season it's harder to ruin everything and as far as I'm concerned, seasons 1-2 were the one ruining the show with all the drug dealing and the over the top situations that stole the place I wanted Norman/Norma relationship to have.

When I started this show, I was kind of upset that Norma wasn't the crazy Mom she was supposed to be, but at the end, I just enjoyed the fact that, as opposed to messing Norman up out of hate, she did it out of love. Now that the show is what I wanted it to be from the start (a psychological horror/drama) and that they tied the loose ends of all the unnecessary storylines, they end it.

IMHO, they could have went to 7 seasons easily without destroying anything and I'm convinced the writers would have been able to pull this out. Season 5 to have Dylan investigate the death of Norma and have his relationship with Norman go deeper. Continue Romero's story, build up Mother etc. Season 6 for some crazy mother fun at the motel, end of Season 6 to introduce Marion and kill her and Season 7 to go on with the investigation and the arrest(Maybe even some psychiatric sessions).

I'm just sad, I seem to be the only one that doesn't want the shows I like to end up prematurely. There's not that much of good shows out there.

5 seasons was the plan from the start so adding more seasons would damaged the series. And having a remake of Psycho as you suggest wouldn't interest me at all.

Even excellent shows as The Wire or Oz should have stopped earlier as most shows become repetitive: Oz at season 4 - the last 2 seasons were useless - and The Wire was very weak after the death of Stringer Bell.

I love TWD and GoT but GoT season 6 is dragging and I'm getting bored and TWD should stop at season 8 after killing Negan and probably the death of Rick: this show is based on characters development and it's impossible to develop them for more than 8 seasons. The show has already dragged a little too much, especially in season 4 and 5.

Six Feet Under is a perfect example: 5 seasons was the perfect number, the show was starting to become repetitive and what a finale! The most perfect of all time IMHO.

I can see only 2 shows - but there are maybe more - that were cut too soon: Buffy and Angel, especially Angel. One extra season for both show even maybe 2 for Angel would have improved the quality of the series.

Stringer was my favourite character in The Wire, so I agree with you that there was something missing after his death. We are in the minority though, as most Wire fans regard season 4 (the one after he dies) as the best season of the show. I don't think there was a bad season of The Wire though. Even season 5, which a lot of people regard as weaker than the rest, had a number of great moments.

I especially loved the whole Stringer Bell/Omar arc in The Wire. To be honest, I have to rewatch the show, maybe I would regard season 4 higher than I did at the time. I haven't rewatched the show since it aired.

SO agree about BtVS and Angel. They are still my top 2 shows of all time. I loved both endings though and thought they were appropriate but still had to start buying the graphic novels that continued the story to get my fix. Not the same though. I could have watched them forever.

I do agree some seasons run their course however brilliant like prison break for example. And some are ended way too soon before they have a chance to get going like Dollhouse, Tru Calling and Flashforward.

It's a shame the fans seem to have nothing to do with these decisions, we just have to deal with them.

Not without Norma. If she was still alive I wouldn't mind another two seasons.

Well you probably wouldnt mind it going another 10 seasons as long as norma and romero had 20 kids and put up a white picket fence right lol

No, you're not. I wish it could keep going, but I know it's not realistic. I guess if we can wait 10 months between seasons, we can survive when it's gone.

I'd love for Season 5 to be longer than 10 episodes, but no I wouldn't want further seasons. The story arc is coming together perfectly, and if they nail #5 it could end up being one of the most solid through-and-through shows ever made.

Even though it sucks to end the creators must have planned it for five seasons for a reason. They had the story laid out in their minds and knew the amount of time they wanted to tell it in. If they decided to continue beyond five just to appease the fans they might be just attaching things on that don't go with the flow.

I agree with magic and fallen. The creators have planned 5 seasons from day 1. Truthfully the show should have been best at 4 seasons total. I liked every season EXCEPT season 2 which felt out of place

I thought the latest episode was the perfect series finale.

I don't think Farmiga would be available past Season 5. She's primarily a film actress and I'm pretty sure she doesn't want to be tied to this series past a 5th season. Without her playing ImaginaryNorma, there really is no point to continue the show.

True. And I also doubt Freddie Highmore would continue beyond 5 seasons - because he's also primarily a film actor, and probably would not want to be typecast as Norman Bates, which would severely limit his career.

You have a good point there. I've never seen him in anything else, and at this point, to me, he and AP ARE Norman Bates. I'd like to see him playing a different sort of character.

No you're not the only one. I was hoping there would be 10 seasons but I wish there were more than 5. They could have done more with Norman being committed.

I would prefer quality over quantity but I feel there was so much more they could have explored and stretched it out a bit longer. Or created longer seasons, not just 10 episodes per season. It goes so fast.
I really enjoy this show and will mourn it when it's over.
