Lol at those hating on the kid

One of the major complaints I hear from this film a lot that has me dumbfounded are about the kid letting the homeless man in. Okay it was a stupid decision at first and let's be honest here we all made dumb decisions when were kids. But I feel the ppl hating on this kid are overlooking a lot.

First of all the kid was trying to show some compassion to the poor guy and he had no idea the true danger of the purge and neither did his parents. More importantly however the kid's instincts about saving the homeless man were proved right in the film when he turned out not be a threat to the family and even saved their asses against the neighbors. And that is even after they tortured him.

I say that kid was pretty smart on his instincts to save the homeless man. Yes I know the counterpoint will be "But if he didn't let him in none of this would've happened" and that is a fair point to make but still all that matters is the homeless man was not a threat.

I agree with your post. It would've helped if the kid at least acknowledged that his decision put his family in a bad spot.

reply

Yeah...I don't understand why all the hate. He was just being a decent human being. He didn't see a threat and he wanted to help the man out. If it wouldn't have been the gang infiltrating the place it would have been someone else. Good on the boy! Kindness is underrated.

reply

It's called empathy and I actually think a lot of people would have done the same.

reply

No the neighbors only came because they thought the family's defenses were weakened. They wouldn't have had access to the equipment to get in and harm the family. The kid almost got them all killed. Save one person or save your family. In this scenario you can't do both

reply

He got his own dad killed.

reply

Nope that would be the crazy gang leader

reply

Semantics. The dad died as a direct result of the little kid letting the homeless man in.

reply

The kid as most children are, was very kind and sympathetic/empathetic, but he was stupid. How he even knows the code for disarm is beyond me. He got his father killed, nearly got his entire family killed, and it was just stupid to let in a complete stranger during the Purge. For all we know, that guy could easily be fooling you to open the door to get in.

Typical dumb kids like the pokemon go kids who just follow any stranger because they told them where to find a pokemon. That's how dumb the kid was.

So showing empathy is being stupid? Well I'm glad he was stupid then. Yes letting a stranger in is a stupid act but I don't get all this disgusting hatred when all the kid was doing was being a kid and showing sympathy for the poor guy. And no he didn't cause the death of his father that was the psychotic rich *beep* that couldn't find another homelesss man to mess with.

josephson:
What was stupid about him letting the guy in? Of course he took a big damn chance letting a stranger in their home, but it was the psychotic rich punk boy who insisted on targeting them because he just wanted to victimize and torture the stranger. He definitely would have been killed if they hadn't let him in. And this being the Purge, someone would have found another reason to try and brake into their home anyway.

Except for pointing a gun at the sister's head to justify staying in the house. In addition, the kid had objectively NO way of knowing if said homeless man was or was not a threat. A very popular trailer theory is that he was working with the purgers

reply

Well what was he suppose to do stand back and let the family throw him to the wolves??? Had the family had the common sense from the start to speak to him they would know he had no intention of harming them. The most important thing though is the kids compassion for the guy saved them from a brutal death at the end. So it seems the kid was actually the smartest one in the whole movie.

Not aim a gun at a teenager's head and threaten to pull the trigger?

Had the family had the common sense from the start to speak to him they would know he had no intention of harming them.
Because people never lieon purge night.

The most important thing though is the kids compassion for the guy saved them from a brutal death at the end.
And the kid got his dad killed and blindly trusted a man he did not know. You don't judge the intelligence of something in retrospect, you judge it based on what was known at the time

So it seems the kid was actually the smartest one in the whole movie.
The director wants everyone to think this, but it is simply not true

Your logic is extremely flawed I don't know where to start. Look we all make irrational decisions when we were younger. If I was in the kids shoes and was watching the security cam and saw the poor homeless man crying out for help I would help him too. Was it a risk? Of course but the kid was acting on his instinct which proved to be the smart thing to do as the homeless man meant the family no harm. And save the bs of him getting his father killed. That would be the psycotic Sh!theads that couldn't find someone else to torment. And as far as him holding a gun to the daughters head well if a family is willing to throw you outside with phychos u might take drastic action. Still if he wanted to harm the family he could have at any time. Heck even after the father tortured him he was willing to go outside to protect the family. Pretty much what it boils down to is the kid not being a sociapth and acting on empathy and compassion proved to be the right thing to do at the end of the day.

I believe that the child showed more wisdom than his parents did. At the beginning of the movie, the son seemed bothered by the purge just like any sane compassionate person should. His parents tried to explain to him how the purge was actually a great thing and improved society and their lives.

I think this movie proved just how wrong the parents were. The parents only supported the purge because they thought they were safe. However, once they were put in danger, their attitude on the purge quickly changed.

If you want to blame someobody for the father's death then the most obvious person is the gang leader. However, the next person to blame for the father's death is the father. He supported the purge and the purge is what killed him. His son didn't like the purge and it turned out that he was right. So, how is the son stupid if his view of the purge was right?

reply

Thank you!!! If anyone is to blame its the parents who as we see in the film have downplayed the severity of the purge for years. They truly thought it was no big deal until it came to their doorstep. All the kid was doing was being a kid making an irrational decision but also a compassionate one as well.
