So is this the end of the series or 3rd season?

Every loose ends were tied and main characters found what they set out to gain since season 1. Although i wish we could get more out of this fab show, the finale looks like a series finale.

Yes it does, I am unsure at why there is not so much enthusiasm on here for such a brilliant programme, it has been amazing from start to finish.
Loved every moment and yet people flock to watch braindead "reality" shows all the time.

Reality shows are often guilty pleasures and they come and go but shows like Ripper Street are gems among the notable period dramas or any tv shows for that matter. Fans will surely be hurt, but the faithfuls witnessed the revival of the show in recent past, hence, this is me hoping for another miracle of same sorts.. let there be more seasons. Bring back Jack the Ripper if it means another season.

reply

Heh, this show is definitely a guilty pleasure too: what "Ripper" inspired film or series isn't? But it was most of all good fun with interesting characters, even if a little anachronistic and over-the-top. I'd gladly watch a season four.

I agree it's a great show. The

lack of enthusiasm
could be because Season Three hasn't been released in the US yet. It's on Amazon UK but not the US. It;s scheduled to be broadcast on BBC America next month.

I am, however, satisfied with the ending. And I don't see it coming back without Edmund Reid.

reply

I think the third season is the last, so we have seen the finale of the whole show. That's my guess.

It was such a great finale. Even though I would have loved to see more of this amazing show, I'm glad it ended on such a high note. I have seen way too many shows get worse with time. This one, however, I will purchase on DVD and treasure for ever.

I also watched it from Season 1 and loved every episode - I will miss this show so much, but it ended on a high note (imo). This show had some top notch actors, and I loved the characters that each of them portrayed. I will buy all the DVDs w/my Christmas money. Such brilliant show that will always be a favorite of mine. I also loved Copper - I wish Amazon or Netflix would pick it up at least for another season, the show was left w/so many unanswered questions and it still had a lot of potential to go on as well.

Well another brilliant show gone, I will miss all three of the main characters, Reid (just absolutely adored him), Drake (he has such a big heart), Jackson (well he got better as the series went on; meaning he tried to go the straight and arrow and he did, but his true love Susan always came into the picture and things just got difficult, and I can't help but love the actor as well).. I loved all the actors really just saying the Jackson character was always "a shade of gray". Inspector Reid will always be my favorite, the man literally suffered so much from the start and I'm sure if people watch the show know what I mean. I don't want to ruin the finale for anyone. I will say it was a pleasant send off, I will just miss seeing this show so much.

If Season 3 is the last of the series, I,too, will miss it. You just can't beat the British for excellent entertainment. Everything about Ripper Street was great. But I don't see it coming back.I wasn't ready for it's ending, but I have no complaint of how it ended. Thank you BBC.

two of the major standouts on the finale are journalist Best was courageous to the end, and that susan hart's feministic shift since season two encapsulated in her gifts for the clinic and lady camdon --i'm glad susan's journey ended up on the side of good.

reply

Last of the series. Actors don't want to do it.

reply

It certainly looks like the absolute end and what a way to go. Although I also watched from the first episode to the last, for me series one was plain ridiculous at times - the absurd wild west street shootout being the lowest point - and the show really only started to gather pace with the second series.

Shame that the BBC were gonna let this die a death and that it took Amazon's arguably ill earned money to write such a fantastic swan song. If only Amazon would save Jonathan Creek in the same way rather than continue to let the Beeb kill it with such painfully weak story lines.

reply

And where exactly, did you get that piece of information? I have seen NOTHING that indicated they wanted to stop playing these characters.
Or, are you just making things up, based on the final episode appearing to be a tie-up of all loose ends? From all I've read, the actors were all thrilled to be part of such a quality show.

Of course he's lying. He's a troll.

It was written with a much more clearly defined ending this time in case it doesn't get renewed for a fourth series.

It might yet return, but if that turns out to be the end, i'm happy enough. Series 3 was utterly outstanding from start to end and it feels much more complete than at the end of series 2.

reply

They made the mistake in leaving stories unresolved after Series 2 and they wanted Series 3 to have no loose ends and wind up like "Copper" which ended with a HUGE cliffhanger and was not renewed. http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-11-12/the-return-of-ripper-street- will-give-fans-closure-but-theres-hope-for-series-four

This is not the end of Ripper Street:

Mellor, Louisa (May 13, 2015). "Ripper Street: renewed by Amazon for series 4 and 5". Den of Geek. Retrieved May 28, 2015.

A quote from Ms. Mellor:
"Series three streamed there late last year to much acclaim, and series four and five are now to follow in its wake."

So, YAY!!!! We at least get two more seasons of Ripper Street!!!

Not sure how I feel about this. There's always room to continue the story, but I thought the finale wrapped things up nicely. It's a fun show, but I'd almost prefer it finish on a high note rather than face the inevitable slide into mediocrity or worse.

I'm exited for new episodes! A lot of my favorite shows have been cancelled here recently, so I'm glad I'll still have 2 more seasons! :^}

reply

I'm certainly not going to complain about more content. I just hope it stays interesting. Season 3 felt disjointed at times, but it all came together in the end.
