Should be thrown in jail....

So you are a rescue helicopter pilot, and you are flying that machine.... But the moment a big quake starts and people are dying all around you, you abuse that machine to try and rescue specifically your ex wife, then abandon the city you are in to fly to another city where your daughter is, even though you know you are safe, you choose to get her, instead of rescueing other tax payers who are in peril. Even though that last thing is your only job and the reason they bought that helicopter for you to fly in.....

Nope, he just didn't see even a single argument that was worth responding to.

The fact that some of you would have done the same is supposed to mean something? None of you ever became first responders, so waht you would do is completely irrelevant. You would probably take care of yourself insead of those in need. Rescue personel didn't sign up for that job for nothing. They don't choose that job because they like the ignore people around them. They certainly don't fly their gear to another city before they are done taking care of people trapped or wounded or hanging on to something for their souls.

Let's be honest. In reality, he actually would go to jail, for harmfull negliance or derelict of duties. And until anyone explains to me (with actual argument and reasoning) why that should be any different, I just asume the protagonist-versus-extras dynamic did its job to cloud your judgement. I just thought it was a little too obvious in this case, and could have been handled a little more delicately by the script writers... I guess delicacy is a little too much too ask for this sort of movie, but still, these people chose to become writers. You'd think they show a degree of ambition.

You think none of the other rescuers took care of their family first no one would be arrested for that I think you fail to see the situation in the light normal people would

The city of Los Angeles (his employer) was destroyed. Who is going to be there to press charges? It may take years before the city is inhabitable again, so good luck hunting him and his family down wherever they relocate and proving that he abused company resources and neglected his job duties during this disaster.

You seriously think what we saw in the movie denotes a total collapse of municipal government? Especially one the size of Los Angeles? This was an earthquake, not WWIII.
