shareSerious question to interested viewers here. I struggle with enjoying cgi because it is so fake. Not that it looks fake, it generally looks photo realistic now... but in the obviously events it makes happen are to fake for words. I know movies are fake, I know they only represent actions, but cgi has opened up a whole realm of impossible now that never existed.
My question is, how does one enjoy cgi without feeling this way?
I love to just enjoy movies but with so much obvious fake now, I can't seem to get past it.
Like huge icicles coming up through the ground. How do people watch and go "so cool". I can't grasp that. Just looks fake to me.
They looked pretty fake to me too. In the old ghostbusters there was an attempt to make the cg integrate with the real elements through composition setup and lighting. Now it seems they just click a button to paste it in and that is that. But it's always easy to tell when they are using it, for the current superhero films it is constant to the point where the actors only need to film a few days and the rest is out of focus fast cuts. The reflected light and all that crap is added in as well in post so everything looks out of place. In ten years people will laugh at how bad the cg is in these films.
sharefull agreed, but I'm talking about the actions that are so obvious that they could never have been done in reality to actually film it, that you already know it is fake cgi. do those feed the story? meh.... SLIGHTLY maybe, but the story could thrive without those types of scenes. they aren't real, seem to have almost no story impact other than "Here's an OOOH COOL right here about a thing - to be forgotten and affect nothing for the rest of the whole film". Maybe I am wrong, I have not seen it yet, but CGI has destroyed that which made movies MAGIC to begin with.
shareI can't looks fake to me too
shareMy kid liked the other 2 new ones. Im sure we will enjoy this one too.
Not expecting lightning in a bottle

shareI mean, is there really an interest in this in 2023?? Didn't the female version of Ghostbusters bomb pretty bad??
shareIt did and then Afterlife made its money back but wasn't a smash, I guess that's all it takes to make another one. They think this one will suddenly start a trend or maybe they are keeping the budget really low and want to focus only on streaming. This film will definitely make less than the last one considering that still had a scent of the remake gimmick on it. But its target audience is now only the people who saw Afterlife and only a percentage of that group will see this one.
