James should do the brave thing and kill off the Nerd.

I feel he lost the energy, passion, or just plain outgrew the character. He should focus on the subjects he is passionate about, like Monster Madness. I believe James' heart lies in horror.

He doesn't need to kill off the Nerd, you just need to stop watching it. Maybe YOU outgrew the Nerd.

You are absolutely right to a point. He has lost a lot of steam, and he does seem 'beaten', like any married man, basically. And age does its own trick, of course.

He can still make good episodes, I am sure of that, after seeing the Tiger and the Christmas Catalog-episodes. Although relatively recent episodes, they are very close to being brilliant, and certainly up to par with his good old episodes (if not as good as the best ones, but then again, what is?)

In my opinion, he doesn't need to kill the character, but it COULD use an 'adjustment' after all these years.

I mean, we have all already seen the AVGN character, its limits and its metaphors and the cussing and the disgusting 'I'd rather..'-references. It has been done. There's no need to continue doing it, we know already what it is like.

However, there can never be enough good review videos - whether they are bad or good games. Rolfe has proven himself to be able to review good games just as well as bad games.

In my opinion, he has lots of options open - and instead of 'killing' the character, it could be possible to perhaps 'change' the character. If he is more mellow in real life, why couldn't the character evolve to reflect that? What if the character could also grow and change a little?

Couldn't he review all kinds of games, instead of just bad ones, and do all kinds of stuff around them (if he wants), instead of just cussing and talking about buffaloes and their productions, and drinking beer.

The old basis of the skit - "an adult becoming so angry at an old video game that he has to drink beer and curse a lot" - has pretty much been done now. He could twist it into something else, perhaps something more positive.

In my opinion, he doesn't need to try to be FUNNY, as long as his videos are FUN to watch. A good video game review is always entertaining to watch.

And Rolfe can make good reviews. I don't think anyone would miss the cursing and the anger, the beer-drinking or the Bugs Bunny-Punching, if he gave us good review-videos of bad, mediocre and good computer and video games. He shouldn't be afraid to expand the character or his video game review possibilities, or to renew the concept, when it has become stale and dusty.

In some ways, I think AVGN character has jumped the shark - this movie is definitely a huge amount of effort put towards the wrong direction. But it doesn't need to be killed, it could be 'expanded' or 'changed' instead.

Or it could be 'replaced' by a more versatile, larger character, that has more possibilities than just being stuck with bad games (obviously there's more to video game culture than just bad games, and we all like watching videos of good games as well, don't we?).

He has such a talent, skill and good and pleasant-to-listen speaking voice, and he can make his points with such detail and clarity, and keep a good pace - and all that - that it would be a total waste to just KILL the AVGN character, and not do game review videos at all anymore.

I think this is a time for James Rolfe to contemplate about things, and if he is honest, he will take his head out of the Yes-men's praise, and look around, and see what the real world is saying about the movie. I realize you don't want to come down from even a fake-high, and face the music. It can be a traumatic experience to pour your life, heart and soul into a production for eight years, and then have it be hated by large crowds of people.

In the movie, the 'fans' praise him and everything he does and says - but in real life, even the fanboys are human beings, capable on seeing a turd for what it is (at least eventually, I hope). It might be a highly polished turd, and it took a long time to produce it, and it may have glitter sprinkled on top of it - a lot of expensive glitter that the audiences paid (in multiple ways).

But it's still a turd, and eventually, he has to accept it, get over it, and choose what to do next.

I don't think he's quite there yet - I think he plans to just keep going with the 'monster' stuff and all that, while struggling with the 'family life' at the same time.

He might be even planning to just make those 'Playing with mike'-videos for awhile - who knows.

I wouldn't want to watch anything with that guy in it - in the movie, it was ok, because he didn't actually speak or try to act or anything.

But James Rolfe presenting something to us, by himself (and perhaps shĂtpickle or Nerdy-Turd or his clones), is where it's at - that's the core experience that everyone can enjoy.

I wish there will be more of that, and that the title card guy would only do the title cards and perhaps other similar graphics. He doesn't belong in front of the camera, and he absolutely should never go near a live microphone, unless he has lost his voice or something.

The ball is in his court now - there's still a window of opportunity to win back his audiences, and the embittered 'ex-fans' and whatnot. I'd definitely always want to watch a good James Rolfe video game or old game system review.

I am sure a lot of other people would, too.

He should but then he'd lose a large chunk of his fanbase (as if he didn't already) by announcing it and that'd mean less views = less money.

I noticed that collectors are now reselling their games nowadays and I wouldn't be surprised if James Rolfe ever ends up doing it too, because he's already lost interest for his AVGN character so he'll someday completely give it up.
