James should do the brave thing and kill off the Nerd.

I feel he lost the energy, passion, or just plain outgrew the character. He should focus on the subjects he is passionate about, like Monster Madness. I believe James' heart lies in horror.

reply

Why? Because you didn't like the movie? You do know the script was written and finalized years before they even announced they were making it?

He's said time and again he won't stop making them even if it ends up being like one episode a year down the track. He's also not going to kill his cashcow when he just had a baby and the demand is still there. That's not brave, that's stupid.

reply

He should stop because he's seriously been lacking real passion when it comes to the character. Anyone who has been watching the last few years can really see that in the newer Nerd videos.
As far as keeping the character going for financial gain? That's a short term solution.
Oh, and I didn't love the movie. I thought the script was weak and unfocused (but WTF do i know). The effort from James though was stellar.

reply

Big Rigs and Tiger games were just as good as any of his older reviews so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

reply

the episodes are still good, ofcourse some episodes are better some are worse just like with the old ones. i watched the movie yesterday and i must say it was SUPER BAD...
i'm a huge fan of nerd, i get all the jokes and references and all but the film was just lacking in quality.. story was okay but it was stretched, boring halfway, amateur actors were super bad and the practical effects.. well im a huge fan of practical effects but those were very bad.
i can see where the money were used but stil not happy with the film

reply

I totally disagree, I think there was a definite dip in quality a couple years back, but his more recent episodes, obviously more sporadically released, are some of the funniest yet. Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing was my favourite since the Bible Games episode.

Well, for one James said that original intention was 3 episodes and it caught on so much that it pretty much consumed his life as he tried to not dissapoint his now newfound plans.

There is also the fact that besode the monster madness, he got no other interesting content, and if he truly wants to make movies (he claims to at least) he needs some capital.

Monster Madness also turned to crap lately. Especially last year. Seriously who would watch all the goddamn Godzilla movies? They were virtually the same save the rubber suit

reply

Uh, hi there, i watched all mozilla movies.

Then again i watched over 3000 movies so i may not be an average example.

reply

What motivates you to watch them all? I could stand 1, 2 or maybe 3, but around 20 of them? They are the same! Some random monster appear, military shoot something, godzilla appear, they fight, that's it.

reply

i agree they are quite repetetive. i just like watching movies, and monster movies is one of the genres i prefer. im also quite obsessively methodical, so if i decide to watch godzilla ill watch them all. if i decide to watch superman ill watch them all. if i decide to watch Nightmare on Elm street, ill watch them all, ect.
I just want to have seen all of it firsthand so i could form an opinion, ect. im the kind of guy that wants to know everything all the time. Sadly, reality is limited to 24 hours a day and a third of that is wasted sleeping :(

You'd find there are many of us who have watched all Godzilla films. I even own most of them and have a yearly marathon.

reply

I just hope he doesn't kill him off in a three-hour movie, then bring him back six months later doing stupid skits instead of actually reviewing things.

(yeah, you all know who I'm talking about...)

reply

Well, bills have to be paid. I haven't watched the person's you're talking about new videos, though.

reply

while now a days i look more towards his monster madness
and film reviews, his big rigs episode was very funny
and i was stunned at the effort put in to the phony
infomercial at the end when usually i thought his latest
avgn material was relying on him cursing.

reply

Well he's not the Angry Video Game Nerd anymore. He's more calmer but I dont mind.

reply

His Big Rigs review was great. And just like back in 2006, he's had reviews here and there that weren't as good as others. As far as him not being as angry anymore, that really has to do with the game. He's reviewed most of the bad NES games and those make the best reviews.

reply

My favorites are the ones about the games he actually likes.
Games like Ghost & Goblins, Ninja Gaiden or the Castlevania Games.

reply

I think he should do the brave thing and review this movie. Seriously.

reply

That would make 0 sense, since they'd obviously have a biased connection to the Movie. Now, some people out there might criticize their own work to some extent but I don't think it's fair to ask someone to review their own movie. Shouldn't the reviewers be the people that the movie was intended for?

reply

James said in one of his videos a while back that he will never stop making AVGN videos - even if he only made one once a year.

reply

The movie's a low budget, campy, cheap sci-fi comedy, the kind of movies James Rolfe endlessly bangs on about on his Cinemassacre website. He made exactly the movie he wanted to make, in the style of movies that he loves. If you're not a fan of Z-movies, you probably won't enjoy it, but if you are, you'll have a great time. I'd recommend sticking to the IMDb's Top 250, as you're probably likely to do anyway.
