Anyone Here Feel The Nerd Is Going Downhill?

I don't know but before he released the movie and now some of the new episodes. I feel like he's trying to keep milking the series. The movie was ok, i kind of got bored after 20 minutes or so. But do guys feel the same? He's just pushing it to keep himself on youtube?

I'm new to the AVGN... In fact, I just heard of him about a month ago. My exposure to him is a streaming channel on Vaughn.tv devoted to video game reviews and AVGN is given the most air time. A couple others are on there, JonTron, and others whose names escape me.
I've never seen this movie, but I love the video shorts of AVGN. I guess it's my age because I grew up with Atari, NES, sega, etc, and I love seeing those older games reviewed, and no one does it better than James. Whether or not he has gone downhill is not important to me. His body of work holds up well. Eventually he was going to run out of material because you can't keep reviewing the same game.
My hat is off to you AVGN. You are very entertaining and fun to watch, and that's more than I can say for many of today's so called stars. I wish you good luck in whatever you do next

When it's not October, J&M Mondays are pretty much all I look forward to now on Cinemassacre. It's just fun to see/listen to them play games and have a laugh instead of forcing yet another half-assed AVGN video. James is over the Nerd character and that's been apparent for a while now. He seems much more energetic and interested in talking about monster/horror movies and filmmaking.

It's probably an age thing. I'm 33 and these days I'd rather focus on the stuff that brings me joy instead of being the cynical prick I was during my 20s when I would rather bitch about the stuff I thought sucked instead of admiring and discussing the things I liked. Life's too short and there's a big difference between being an angry young man and a bitter old bastard.

I understand AVGN is just a character, but that's my take on why he's not into it anymore.

I won't say he is going downhill but more like, his schtick ran its course. I think people in general grew old/tired of the format. Also, retro game reviews have been beaten to death by now.

I'm still a fan of AVGN, but you can tell even that James is getting tired of doing the AVGN character as he's no longer enthusiastic during his reviews. I mean, watch his most recent videos and compare them to when he first started, you can see James having much more fun doing the character compared to now. Also, I think his earlier reviews were a lot less scripted as well.

the quality of the series varies, it's obviously not
what he did with the R.O.B. stuff, and it's more of
a toned down commentary, but it really varies on how
much goes on. i thought big rigs episode was funny
because i didn't expect the commercial at the end which
showed he put a lot of effort into it, and the recent hong kong '97
was very funny.

Yeah, he still shows flashes of brilliance. Like the Big Rigs review which is classic.

I still really love to watch his show but it's a fact that the they are not funny as they used to be in the past. I think the main problem is, his shows are now much more scripted than improvised and so his anger & rage does not feel natural anymore.

I liked the Megaman episode, but I agree that a lot of the new episodes are not very good.
What James really like is film, and more speciffically B-class horror films.
He focused on AVGN because he knew that he had an oportunity to be more famous with that series than the rest of Cinemassacre content.
Now he makes AVGN episodes mostly because people keep asking for more but I can see that he put more effort into Board James and now he is preparing to do the movie bassed on the NES game of Dr. Jekyll & Mr Hyde.

The Beetlejuice episode was horrendous but James has gotten back to making really good AVGN episodes again. 

The Nerd's time has been over for a while now. That's not to say he is looking to continuously be one of the biggest YouTubers anymore. He succeeded in what he wanted to do, now he lives off his internet legacy and that isn't a bad trip. I do feel his content has lost it's novelty and doesn't really do anything for me anymore, though I still enjoy revisiting his old videos. Apart from posting his Ghostbusters 2016 non-review, which triggered the safe-space internet dwellers, James hasn't posted anything noteworthy since his movie. But he doesn't need to compete with other YouTubers anymore.
