I know its a fairy-tale and what not, but where DID the magic come from in this movie?

As in, how did that house all of a sudden have magic and supernatural powers and its inhabitants had magic skills in them, and also, what was meant to be that chair, it almost was like that dog footstool from "Beauty and the Beast", lol.
