Hands down, the best television I've ever seen

Stunning in every way; acting, writing, subtlety, suspense. Simply phenomenal.

Breaking Bad is so ridiculously over-rated these days. It's a good show but I think it totally fell apart at the end, and about halfway through it became all plot and no nuance. I haven't finished Top of the Lake yet but its respect for its characters thus far is masterful.

I'm a complete Breaking Bad nut and love every moment of that show. I think that even at its worst it's 100 x more complex, inventive and honest than 99% of TV on offer. It creates its own distinct world and plunks you head first into it. And it was a sleeper hit. Only after several seasons of being showered with awards and a cult following did it manage to gain the amount of viewers it deserves.

TotL is really a 6 hour long arthouse movie mascarading as mainstream TV. Yes, the plot is completely ridiculous from start to finish, but since when do things have to make sense in arthouse? Something about it is just so raw and eccentric that it makes you feel alive when you're watching it. But then that's Campion in general - I really gotta see more of her stuff. The lack of obvious movie make-up on any of the actors also helps - they look like real people.

Best I have seen as well.
I am so sick of the Hollywood heavy handed manner of using films merely as vehicles for pushing their leftist spin, PC agenda talking point, social engineering.

This series tells a story, an interesting story with lots of interesting characters, each with more than one dimension and many of them with their own stories which get weaved into the main plot to various degrees. The story was not simply a vehicle for pushing an agenda or indoctrinating viewers with a "correct" viewpoint.

It is a who 'dunnit' with a lot more. The acting was great. I got thoroughly into the story, losing awareness that the players were just acting roles.

I can't really explain why I like this series so well, but I do. And I look forward to the next season of this show.
