I went into this movie with no information and no knowledge About the movie. I've seen this movie advertise On IMBD a lot and went on that. I didn't know it was a Shakespeare's play. I only know a few of his work and this one I was clueless about but the name sound familiar after hearing it now a few times.
My biggest problem with the movie is the old time dialogue With the modern/today surrounding. It does not work at all and you can tell that the actors didn't seem serious about the role. The director try to make it feel older by making it black and white but what he does not understand is that it made it cheesy and does not help it at all. Color would have work fine or enrich the color instead.
OMG, I loved this movie!! The last 20 minutes were the best. So good. I saw it on Netflix, and when I first heard about it, I tried to find it from (ahem) other sources, but could not, and it was not in any theatre. I thought it was awesome, and I'm so glad Joss did this. I hope he does another one like this. Nathan Fillion! Maybe Alls Well That Ends Well, that would be a good one.
I am not bashing Shakespeare, nor the "old-english". But the unbelievable setting and the acting in this black & white turd is just awful. The 1993 version directed by Kenneth Branagh is one of my personal favorites. While not a perfect movie nor adaptation, it has 100% more heart and feeling in the first minute than the 10 minutes of this I suffered through before stopping it on netflix.
I wanted to like it and I tried to give it a chance, it simply did not work for me. In fact it failed miserably in every minute. Just because you can film an adaption of a classic play in your house for a week does not mean you should. Very poorly done.
If this was someone's first time experiencing this play or Shakespeare and you liked this film, well... more power to you. But if you are like me, who has seen a different version, did you honestly like this one more or even at all?
As someone who had seen the Branagh version and read the play before seeing this, yes, I enjoyed it and liked it. So did my ex who is a big Shakespeare fan.
That's good...at least the film was not a complete waste. I honestly wanted to like it because I love the Branagh version so much. I understood that it would be different but I got a really bad vibe in the first couple of minutes and it only got worse.
I am open minded enough to realize that everyone cannot and will not like the same things. I appreciate the fact I was able to voice my displeasure for this film and not be mobbed by the fans.
First time (that I remember) that I deleted a movie 10 minutes in. Life is too short to spend it watching boring *beep* and there are many great movies yet to be seen.
