Is ANYONE happy??

I've been reading the message boards for this show and it appears that NO ONE is happy.

One part angry bc it's a show about a gay couple, one part bc the girl is "renting" out her uterus, one part angry bc the grandmother makes off color comments about pretty much everyone (she rips the South too but shockingly no one is up in arms about that). Despite the fact that there is a show about a gay couple, one part is angry bc one of the male characters is "too gay" (can't recall the exact verbiage that was used) and one part angry bc one of the guys that is gay isn't black and gay. There are so many more but I'm sure you've seen them.

Is it possible for anyone to NOT get so offended these days? Why is everyone so tense and have a stick up their butt? Do people have to be ticked off and complaining about something in order to be happy? I think we need to start spiking the water supply with Valium or Xanax so everyone would be chill and peace would be nation wide.

I'm happy. I think it's a very cute show. It has snappy dialogue, interesting characters, and the one thing that I would quickly get bored without (try as I might to overlook it): it has a really attractive male lead (call me shallow, but give me someone to look at and I'm a happy camper).

I think the problem you are running into is that some people just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.

I'm just offended by Ryan Murphy's existence

Oh, me too. I loathe the fact that he reels me in with show premises that I happen to really like and then I'm stuck with the mediocre writing until it offends me enough to just let it go. He is everything a writer shouldn't be. There are still good things going on with New Normal, but I have a sick feeling in my gut knowing the writing is bound to go downhill from here eventually, especially if it gets picked up for more seasons.

Apparently you and I have clearly had very different experiences with Ryan Murphy shows. As far as I know he's written 5: Popular, AHS, Glee, Nip/Tuck, and New Normal. Popular and Nip/Tuck I loved all the way through from beginning to end (Mind you I was 13 when Popular ended, so I don't remember it that well, but I watch it religiously. I only recently watched Nip/Tuck and thought it was great). AHS is a different story completely every season, so it doesn't get stale. New Normal, as I've said, I really like, and Glee, surprisingly, I'm still pretty wrapped up in (despite my complete lack of interest in the new crew, but I digress).

His writing is anything but mediocre.

I think his writing starts off with promise and then he gets so ADHD about his projects and moves on and leaves his last project with lazy writing, as if he doesn't care about it. Glee's been nosediving in that direction since season 3... He just doesn't know how to maintain momentum very well because he loses focus so often. It's kind of why I think AHS is so effectively executed in that he doesn't have the opportunity to get bored because there are only 13 episodes per season, and each season has a contained storyline... I think that's where his strength lies. In shorter tv series. I also definitely feel like he cashes in to what is popular at the time and tries to be too PSA about things while at the same time losing perspective of what he was writing in the first place. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Trolls are attracted to Ryan Murphy shows like flies on a windshield.

The same analogy can be used for bigots to anything associated with homosexuality.

I've learned not to take anything seriously on these boards a long time ago.
