I'm American and I loved it, came to the message boards because I wanted to know if they will follow-up with a movie or Christmas special.
To give some context, I am 32 and have always been a fan of some foreign comedy movies but British TV comedy series, while I would never say is any better/worse than the average American series, generally didn't do it for me when I was younger. I thought the UK Office was good, but I didn't understand why it was so huge, same with Extras. Ironically, what turned me was The Inbetweeners, I don't know why it's not the type of show I'd usually fall in love with but I felt like even as an American it captured high school so perfectly and the little cultural differences made it more fun, and ever since then I've been watching British comedies like Fresh Meat, Peep Show, Cuckoo, a bunch more but it's late. I feel like British TV comedies, while still full of exaggeration, just capture the comedy of every day life so much better than their American counterparts (with exceptions like Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc.)
Anyway, there's a point to all this, which is I don't believe this is a coincidence or because my tastes have matured - I believe that as time goes on our humor and culture has become more similar (or we're at least more exposed to it if we want to be) so while there is still a difference, it's not as big as it once was.
Agree, disagree?
