What's a religious realist?

shareYeah !! I'm still wondering about that .. " He's a romantic atheist, she's a religious realist. " where did they get that ?!!
shareI don't believe that 'religious realist' is a category but is rather a way to describe Elise's relationship with life. Her realism in the face of tragedy clashes with Didier's idealism. It's his idealism that generates his anti-religious rants because he cannot face having his ideals disappointed. To put it more simply: Elise is more grounded than Didier.

Intent ends, spirit continues
Answer: A person who is a realist.
Explanation: Every human on planet Earth is religious...every single one. The only difference is what people are religious about.
Some of the most devoutly religious are those who count themselves among the modern American atheist movement. They wear the concept of "science" as a shield against Christianity, while professing the moral high ground because of historical events like The Crusades or the Spanish Inquisition. They utterly ignore the actual teachings of Christ and the behavior of the other 99.99999% of Christians throughout history.
These religious zealots decry the concept of Creation Theory and offer instead the Big Bang Theory, a belief that once upon a time there was nothing then BAM...something, and lots of it. They will gladly accept Newton's Laws as laws, and will yet simultaneously accept the Big Bang Theory. These concepts are perfectly contradictory, requiring FAITH, not FACT.
There are countless other examples of the deeply flawed American atheist belief system. Suffice to say, it takes more religious faith to count oneself among that belief system than it does to count oneself as a Christian.
Thus, my answer to the question.
We get that you're a believer. give it a rest already. you're boring everyone with multitudes of wrong assumptions and false statements. You believe, others don't. fine. now drop it.

Actually I didn't catch on to her being religious, let alone being a realist. I got she may have been slightly spiritual and free spirited. But having some religious art, lighting some candles, and have an old family heirloom doesn't represent being religious to me. Heck we had buddhas as art in the house the whole time I was growing up didn't make us Buddhist, nor were candles a part of any church ritual I ever attended, many churches are far removed from catholic rituals, so symbolisms get lost in the translation. The whole religion vs. atheist view really was flimsy with him being more solid and outspoken with his belief and her pretty much being a go with the flow kind of person with no concrete belief system, but I really enjoyed the movie just the same because that sometimes is how people really are.
