If you can't walk 13 miles in one day...

then you deserve to die. How this group isn't able to wake up when the sun comes up and walk 13 miles to the checkpoint is beyond me. Yes the one guy is injured and can't walk at all, then leave another person there with him for company and safe keeping and START WALKING. Even if you go in intervals of walking 2 miles and jogging 1 mile, you're going to get to the checkpoint before night falls.

Personally I didn't like this movie. I didn't care for the characters at all, and when they died I didn't feel any remorse for it either. If anything I was rooting for them getting killed just so it would end and I could leave.

Between the wild animals and the mutants, they would have died before they reached the checkpoint. Did you miss the scene where they get chased by a pack of wolves in broad daylight?

Whatever guys they were big wild killer dogs...are you saying they wouldn't have killed anybody who tried to hike out to the checkpoint? I'm pretty sure they were deadly whether they're technically considered wolves or not.

To every M0R0N who thinks that walking 13 miles is easy, I'll bet my life that none of you have ever walked 3 miles in one day, let alone 13. Walking 13 miles would easily take 8 to 10 hours, & would make you feel like you're going to drop from exhaustion before the 4-mile mark. I've actually walked 4 miles non-stop in one day before (I don't have a car), so unlike some of you pricks, I'm speaking from experience.

There's no way to expect a normal person to walk 13 miles in one day for ANY reason. However, I will say that there's no reason why the characters couldn't walk at least a FEW miles away from the most dangerous areas.

um, laughable post of the century? none of us have ever walked 3 miles in a day, let alone 13? well, i've run over 13 miles (it's called a half marathon) in slightly over 2 hours multiple times. if you are unable to walk 3 miles, and are under, oh, 65, you should probably seek immediate medical attention, or go on a major diet at once.

I guess few %%%% of people are marathonists and WALKING 13 miles is not the same as running 13 miles...

My dad is 55 and we walked 13 miles in just over 4 hours for charity so i am sure they could of done it.

Lay off the Mcdonalds, Fat Boy!

I used to walk 12 miles in 4 hours, three times a week. Also In the Army you have to run 1.5 miles in 9mins and run 3-5 miles everyday.

Also, in the army

A lot more people are NOT in the army than ARE in the army. That goes double for the characters in the movie.

I think they could have walked 13 miles. The main problem was they had no sense of direction as to where the checkpoint was, so literally they could have been walking in circles.

At one point in the movie someone locates a map, but by that time its already late in the afternoon.

The radiation would have gotten them anyway in the time it took to reach safety, wouldn't it? Uri said they were only safe to be there a couple of hours, and they were stranded with salvation more than two hours away on foot for people of average fitness. So, go or stay put, it wouldn't make much difference. They were searching for cables to restart the van and DRIVE out, which actually seems like the most logical plan, since it could take the least time.

Under 2 hours is just the recommended max exposure to avoid long term effects. A few more hours exposure would not have made much of a difference. You'd have to live there for a long period of time to experience effects of radiation.

True, but if I were in that situation, I would be worried about the long-term effects anyway… That in itself is a possible death sentence - you're gambling, and you don't know when it might take hold. It's as much of a risk as braving the dogs could be considered.

All the more reason to leave as soon as possible. In two hours they could be 6-8 miles away, where the radiation would be much lower.
