The Redneck Culture

This is a film about authentic Southern people and the code they live by. These are the kind of folks country songs have been written about for generations. They live hard lives, and lives that are hard on relationships. They have a native intelligence about boats and engines and how to make use of the resources at hand like Neckbone's uncle. There is sort of a native mistrust of government bred into these folks, as the film alludes to. Mud is not going to take his chances in a court of law. Very well done and perfect casting makes this a very entertaining film to watch.

That was well put, although I don't equate southern culture with redneck culture. They do overlap some, but many Southerners are not rednecks and many rednecks are not Southerners. Some of the biggest rednecks I've known were not Southerners and have come from anywhere from California to New York.

The filming locations are not far from Elvis Presley's home in Memphis, TN, but I don't think anyone would consider Elvis a redneck.

I like the comment and respect it.

Do Southern people want to live like that? Do they like it? Is this life style desirable? Do people from other parts of the US or world come to the South to live like that?

It seems the movie showed that there is not much to do for youth and there are not many jobs.

Thank you for your answer.

The Redneck Culture

An oxymoron, if ever I saw one.

Note sure why you say that. There is definitely a redneck culture in the South, for better or worse. It may not be a culture that you want to be a part of it but it's a culture nonetheless and a rich one at that.

Good grief people! There are good & bad people EVERYWHERE! In every race, religion, profession etc. Saying that the entire south is the same redneck or hillbilly is ignorant. There are rednecks & hillbillies in the north, east, west & in between. How can you not see that? Have you ever spent any time anywhere in the south?! I doubt it. Or possibly you had a bad expierence while passing through. BUT that is no excuse. My step father was a truck driver & would not take a load that went anywhere in "yankee" territory! Well, I have since been several places in that "territory". It has it's good & bad points just as anywhere! And many beautiful areas. I was especially impressed with Long Island. And though I would not want to live in NewYork City, I do like going there to visit. I think it's fascinating & many great people there &...some not so great. But, that's just a part of life on the planet!
