Zero interest in watching this
First DARK CRYSTAL, then WILLOW, and now this? We seem to have hit a pattern of nostalgia over a semi-successful 80's fantasy film and cash in on it by making a late sequel/remake only in mini-series form. Unfortunately I think it never works due to a few factors, and the first is that the charm of the original is missing (generally lost in trying to modernize it for younger audiences and/or to insert political messaging and force a lot of unnatural and distracting diversity) and also that they make these so long and drawn out that there's no way to maintain interest.
It looks like not only did they forget to consult with Terry Gilliam, but they also failed to cast any of the surviving actors (they couldn't even get a Michael Palin or John Cleese cameo?), plus the bandits aren't even dwarves anymore. At least the "Willow" series, as terrible as it was, actually went and brought back Warwick Davis and Joanne Whalley. It looks like they made the calculated bet here that the names don't make things any more marketable with young people, but then again they forgot not to alienate the fans of the property.
Oddly enough I'm the target demographic of this sort of film because I absolutely loved TIME BANDITS as a child and have gone back and watched it at least 20 times in my adult years. However, I'm absolutely sick of these cynical cash-grabs to the point where not only would I not watch something defile a major part of my childhood, but I'll do my best to dissuade other people from doing the same. I doubt this bloated production will earn a profit, but unfortunately capitalism can't be counted on anymore to keep ESG tax-writeoffs like this from being funded with endless Blackrock money.
I'm sure there will eventually be streaming series made over NEVERENDING STORY, LEGEND, PRINCESS BRIDE, and maybe even KRULL which similarly will fail to either earn a profit or please fans.
