What was the purpose of Sarah's approach to Virgil?

At one point, Sarah approaches Virgil to let him know that Robert talks about Clair.

I don't see how this could help them with their scheme or how this integrates in the general plot. Am i missing something?

Another thing that i didn't quite get is what was the numbers the handicapped lady owner was always calling, at the bar across the villa.

And last but not least, why didn't Virgil enter to the police station? We see him in front of it with a flashback of making love with Clair. what led him to believe she will wait for in Prague?

Please share your thoughts.

Thanks.

I think that the numbers are "random", meaning that they are not related to the story but used to show that she has a perfect memory, as she so eloquently demonstrated when she was talking to Virgil.

Sarah approached Virgil in an effort to save her relationship since she knew that something's up with Robert and Claire. So she was hoping that Virgil would confront Robert about Claire.

The police wasn't contacted because most of his paintings were "acquired" by some "creative" schemes, so if he contacted the police they would start to question the origin of those paintings... Also I think that still, after all that's happened he would take Clair back...

Hope this helps...

there is no evidence that rober and clair are lovers, maybe billy and clair are lovers, who knows.

Well Billy did paint the picture of "Claire"'s "mother" and send it to Virgil.

it was quite obvious that billy/robert/'sarah' or whatever her real name is are all in for the scam, Virgil never had any 'friends'.

reply

he even called them "family" in the restaurant scene when they all had dinner together.

reply

I think Billy was the mastermind, Robert talented technician and Claire just a charismatic actress. Maybe Robert and Claire just got paid in the end, and Billy kept the biggest lot. Sarah could be Robert´s real-life girlfriend.

Jesus. You (*Dreamcatcher*) have really missed the whole plot, theme and red thread throughout the movie! One stupid comment after another. Watch it again. This time, get of your pot and pay attention!

THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING AUTHENTIC CONCEALED IN EVERY FORGERY.

Ring a bell? I just had to comment, quite tired of your stupid comments on every thread.

He believed she will appear in Prague because of the hints.

She said she loved him, no matter what happens to them, obviously meant for him to understand later.
She told him about the restaurant, it turned out to be true.
She told him her lover left her in Prague, and indeed, her Robert has at least two other ladies. Even Sarah is speaking about women coming in and going out.

He does not know whether it is Robert, who will ditch her, or whether there is an obligation towards Billy. But he decides to wait, because he loves her and believes she loved him.

Of course, he might be wrong ...

Yes when a man is hopelessly in love he will always hold out hope that one day she will come back or that one day they will accidentally meet. To lessen the pain he fantasizes.

reply

Sure, but the movie gave concrete hints, although not conclusive, so there is some basis to his fantasy. There was no need for her to tell him what she told him, it was not necessary for the scam to work.

Sarah felt bad about what was happening and was trying to warn Virgil. That's why Robert screamed angrily at her when he next saw her.

reply

Why would Robert tell Sarah about the plot? An unnecessary risk for giving them up, she didn't need to know about it at all. And it's not like Robert was devoted to Sarah, he had plenty other girlfriends.

reply

According to the reviews I read about this movie I realized that many did not understand.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Billy was the lover of Claire.
She says her boyfriend was older than her and left her in the restaurant in Prague.
Virgil Billy betrayed because he never believed he was a good artist and belittling his career.

all of them are in the scam. including sarah and the housekeeper (the old guy), the boys at the bar and the ladies that show up at robert's shop. maybe as someone stated here, sarah was feeling bad about it and tried to warn virgil but i tend to just go that it was part of the plan. using jealousy as a weapon to make virgil more involved with the plot. it's just a great movie even if we can foresee the plot twist.

Sarah's approach to Virgil was a necessity. It was vital for the group to make Virgil jealous! How could you not see this? In order to make him fall in love up to the neck, he had to be jealous about Clair. Simple as that.

How can YOU not see what a jerk YOU are? Do you feel impelled to put someone down with all your comments? But you can relax. You have plenty of company.

Rough paraphrase I heard recently: Strong women empower other women, not put them down. Give it a try; be more of a mensch!

I was curious about this question also - but I think this is the answer.

They knew Virgil would hesitate actually to "make a move" on "Claire", so the added motivation of jealousy was intended to make him hurry up and commit himself.

lady owner of the villa when Virgil asks if they saw a girl (Claire) coming out of the building she says (in the background)the times that she has saw Claire coming out of the building..131 or something
I guess a second view would be enjoyable too,as it has more than that too
