U.S. Remake is coming!!!

http://asiapacificarts.usc.edu/article@apa?hollywood_remake_of_the_rai d_in_the_works_17418.aspx

The Indonesian producers are apparently going to be involved, as well as the original fight choreographers but this is Hollywood.

Who do you guys think they will cast as the SWAT team members and then the villain?

I have a feeling that Hollywood might just cast someone like Collin Farrell, Vin Diesel,Channing Tatum, or Tyrese Gibson. Then they would add Cung Le and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as the villains. I would hope they would add some Hong Kong Action stars like Donnie Yen but chances of that are probably slim.

reply

There is no way in hell the U.S. remake is going to be even remotely as good as this was. No Hollywood actor is going to be able to duplicate the insane fighting that takes place in this movie. No remake for me.

Nice, Scott Adkins for sure! Although he never gets the attention he deserves :/

typical hollywood, remake a successful foreign movie because 90% of americans are to arrogant or to dumb to watch a foreign language film.

having said that if the MUST do it they should be looking at people like adkins and michael jai white, to a lesser extent jason statham for roles.

any movie with trejo in becomes awesome by default so i'd like to see him in there as well

"90% of americans are to arrogant or to dumb"

I just wanted to highlight this hilariously ironic sentence. I think it speaks for itself. LOL!

reply

Since I'm from the UK I'll correct it by saying 99% of Americans are to arrogant or to dumb

reply

WHOOOSH

LOL

reply

Kieranimt,

I am also from the UK. Your comment is stupid; Even1001 was rightly taking the pis* out of you due to the irony of your use of the word "dumb" coupled with your spelling.

You probably did not understand that.
Did you go to school?
You are an embarrassment.

TOO!!

reply

You just made me spit out my coffee!!! LMFAO

reply

Typical anti-American moron. The majority of the gross for Hollywood movies comes from the Foreign Box Office. A lot more dumbass foreigners watch these remakes than Americans.

reply

However it is sadly a reality that the huge majority of US movie watchers will not consider seeing a film with subtitles. This leads to remakes that are almost always inferior and treat their viewers as idiots.
Sub-titled films are far more popular in Europe where they are not seen as a problem.
Also if the original is of a "dark tone" with an unhappy or ambiguous ending(something quite common in non-Hollywood movies) they are usually changed to fit in with the percieved need of American audiences to require "closure" in a film.
Hollywood doesn't make bad films on purpose, they do it because advance showings in malls etc. proove that it is what their customers want.

reply

Yeah I'm canadian and have no problems watching subtitled movies, but a lot of my american friends can't stand it. Having English voiceovers are always the worst, I'd rather hear the native tongue and do a bit of reading.

reply

Darn Americans... We just ruin everything don't we? Seems that all the world's problems lead back to us.

reply

Well, its all mathematics. Lets take a stupid/dumb movie like...Twilight and we have:
Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $192,769,854 49.1%
+ Foreign: $199,846,771 50.9%
You see? 49.1 USA, 50.90 The rest of the world.
Population of the USA acording to wikipedia is 317,320,000.
Population of our Planet (excluding USA) is aprox. 6.798.880.000.
Du you see where am I going with this or you are among those 90% of Americans? I'm not gonna say 99% like your friend from England.
So, the conclusion is that in USA the percentage of stupid/dumb people is much higher than in the rest of the world.

reply

Exactly!

There's a huge crowd in the US who apparently can't read (the subtitles) but the same retards are eager to spend their minimum wage on movies - so there you go.

Truth is, Hollywood's hay day is long gone, they've copied foreign films for a decade now.

reply

you know the movie got super popular because lots of americans know about it/have seen it right?

anyway, i don't usually mind remakes if they end up not sucking but idk how a remake of this is possible. there are no prominent american martial artists out there. unless they use MMA people or something i don't see why anyone would think this would work.

THEY SHOOTIN'! ah, i made you look.

reply

They remake it, because they know they can make money from doing so. They are businesses, and that's what businesses do.

Nobody is forced to watch it, and stop pretending that you yourself are as likely to watch movies in languages that you don't understand at all, as you are to watch movies in either english or your own language (if it isn't english). You may still watch some, but you are definitely less likely to, so cut the crap.

The fact that you will think a movie is awesome purely because of a specific actor being in it, is worse than someone not wanting to watch a foreign film. (I didn't say it's not understandable or ok)

reply

I'm American and love the original foreign film, and am an avid viewer of foreign films, I also hate dub overs and prefer subtitles. I have plenty of friends who are in the same boat, 90% of Americans? What arrogance to say such nonsensical *beep* A sweeping generalization to say the least. I don't even want an American remake but to say the vast majority of the populace is too "arrogant" to watch foreign films is pretentious *beep* *beep* you.

reply

typical hollywood, remake a successful foreign movie because 90% of americans are to arrogant or to dumb to watch a foreign language film.

If you're going to accuse people of being too dumb, you should know when to write to and too. Don't tell me it's too much trouble to add an o when you already have a finger on the o.

reply

Considering how many remakes that hollywood produces and that fails this movie probably isn't going to make it either, the chances are slim of it actually being a success.

I hope this remake is Rated R, I refuse to see this remake if it's PG-13

reply

Statham could?

I can promise you a day of reckoning that you will not live long enough to never forget.

reply

I completely agree with Bsmith. I believe that this Hollywood remake will bring no justice to how remarkable this film was

reply

Michael Jai White could definitely do this..

reply

According to aint it cool.com it could be starring Chris and Liam Hemsworth.
I really hope not...

reply

I agree. It is bewildering to me that people think any remake is necessary unless the original sucks and they think they could make a better one. The only remake I can think of that I liked was True Grit. If they make this one it will probably be like the recent Robocop or even worse like Old Boy.

reply

I knew they'd be a remake! I have a feeling Trejo is gonna be in there somewhere...

George Lucas talking about: 'Hey, give it to me, I'll fix it. I'll make 20 more of them'

reply

Aah, Trejo... I have the feeling if he's going to be casted, he will play the role Mad Dog.

reply

If he should play anyone it should be only the crime lord or the crooked cop. Ray Park and Byung-hun Lee should be in this for sure. Ray Park could be the Sergeant. Byung-hun Lee and Rick Yune could be the brothers. I would like to see Rick Yune as the lead. And if anyone should be Mad Dog its Rain from Ninja Assassin. Sung Kang could be in this as well. This is my dream cast, please feel free express your opinion.

reply

I hope they cast Michael Cera as the lead.

Hollywood makes me angry. Not just because they take everything good and remake it into complete crap; it's because they also waste BILLIONS OF DOLLARS in the process. Billions that could probably bring the USA out of their freaking debt.

*Cue epic face palm*

reply

Silly poster. When you say "waste" billions of dollars, you realize that money is spent employing lots of people and buying lots of goods and services. And that economic activity generates tax revenue. The money doesn't go into a black hole. It may result in a crap movie, but that doesn't mean the money was wasted. Only if you're the investor coughing up the money can you say that.

Actually, that was quite an insightful point of view!! Thank you for sharing

reply

Have you considered the consequence after big silly investments like that? The money spent just created an one-time benefit to employ people for that crap movie, then fewer investors want to invest in the future. It will have a long-term negative impact, cause more unemployment in the future. That's the black hole.

reply

YES. Also, fancy seeing you here.

I can promise you a day of reckoning that you will not live long enough to never forget.

reply

The remake is for stupid Americans who can't read.

reply

Although I do not mind remakes, I cannot even begin to imagine how Hollywood could get close to this masterpiece let alone top it.

Personally, this is a no-go zone Hollywood.

reply

This movie needs a remake, the story needs an overhaul and so does the the cinematography the *beep* shaky cam in this movie is annoying as *beep*.

reply

This is why Hollywood sucks. The movie is already amazing(not perfect, but still great). It does not need a remake, yet Hollywood sees it as another way to earn some quick cash. Leave this good movie alone and come up w/ you own friggin ideas.

Tien > Krillin

reply

I don't know firehopey, don't put much faith in Hollywood in doing better in cinematography these days. They could add more shaky cam in the remake for the worse of it.

reply

Shaky cam is on purpose. That's what the Transformers generation doesn't get. If you make everything clean and perfect in an action movie then it isn't a good action movie by definition.

reply

Though there are plenty of people who are too damn lazy to read subtitles, and I certainly have no confidence a Hollywood remake would be any good, understanding the words as they are spoken is much more immersive than on screen text. Not only are the words understood, but the emotion and tone in those words comes through when you understand them.

reply

i dont think that is true, battle royale conveyed emotion and fear even without understanding japanese, you can tell by their tone and pitch, and their visuals

reply

Speaking of the awesome Battle Royale. werent Hollywood thinking of remaking that a while back too? aint heard no more of it in the rumour mill for quite sometime.

reply

The "Battle Royale" remake was delayed a number of times because of events such as the Virginia Tech massacre. There was serious talk recently about a remake by New Line Cinema, but that has now been made impossible by the release of "The Hunger Games". Personally, I think that's for the best, but there you go.

Would-be producer Roy Lee has suggested developing a "'Battle Royale' movie for the next generation.”, but he's talking about at least 10 years in the future...

Totally agree.

remake for what? America dont make ultra violent action movies anymore cause someone will complain.

As an American I can say that I have ZERO faith in Hollywood doing this film any justice. Gareth Evans should be allowed to remake his own film and show Hollywood how it is done. Hollywood can't do action anymore unless it's CGI spectacle.

And who the hell are they going cast that will put their bodies through what the cast in The Raid did? Prima Donnas like Matt Damon certainly can't pull this off.

reply

There have been directors who have done this before... Michael Haneke comes immediately to mind... where the remake is worse than the original.

How does this happen, especially with a shot-by-shot? Who knows, but apparently it's possible.
