I know English dubs usually suck but I got a real problem with pro-sub people writing off pro-dub people as lazy people who don't like to read.
Movies are a visual medium and when you're busy reading the whole time, the visual are moved to the background.
In an action movie like this, I prefer to have my attention focused on what's happening on screen.
So I posted this and then watched the movie both ways. This is an ACTION movie ain't nobody got time for "Man: Grunting" in MS-Dos font on the screen when you could be watching a sick fight scene.

Why would you watch the "Subtitled for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing" option? I'm pretty sure there were pure translation subs as well.

Point is you want the screen clear bc the action is the star and the dialogue ain't great in any language.

I just think it's a distracting insult to the original performances most of the time. But I'm Belgian, I grew up on nothing but subtitles. I just think both options should always be available.

shareI always prefer subtitles over dubs. Dubbed movies are often done really poorly and take away from what's on screen. Subtitles require you to stay focused and it allows me to enjoy the movie more.
However, with The Raid: Redemption, it really doesn't matter as the dialogue is of minimal importance.
I usually prefer subtitles but in this case I'd recommend the dubbed version. I agree with the previous poster that this movie is better without any clutter on the screen. This is one of the best action movies I've ever scene. It's better to go with the dubbed version for the little bit of dialog that is necessary for the fantastic action.

Perfect assessment iHulk7. This release is an exception when choosing just because you get two music soundtrack versions. The original Indonesian music track does the horror violent angle so well. Just compare the Hallway fight and Machete gang scores. Two different films!
shareAs a fluent-but-not-native speaker of Indonesian, I couldn't help but noticing that while all the characters spoke in Jakartan/"Betawi" dialect, it didn't appear very natural in all instances. The main cop had the best delivery, his brother as well. I watched it with subtitles and the subs were all sorts of off.
shareVery interesting to hear. Whether dialect or simply the actors delivery, it's interesting to hear about the non-athletic part of their performance. Not all amazing stunt guys are charismatic like Jackie Chan (GOAT).

The dubbed version that I watched was really cheesy but it didn't take the enjoyment out of it, however, I'll probably by the DVD and watch the subtitled version.
