7.8 Rating?

This isn't a movie--this is a video game with the controller on autopilot. Banal plot with banal characters. I expect the remake will simply be called "Level 2"--the exact same movie with the bad guys carrying pistols instead of machetes. Level 3 - Uzis, Level 4 - bazookas, etc... I really lost faith in IMDB ratings with this "movie."

lmao. good post

To each his own, but I agree to disagree. The plot was simple but the execution was terrific; great level of suspense with the characters given reasonable depth. Add the mind blowing action that embarrasses Hollywood and you've got 7.8.

What's irrelevant is who ^jordantemper says he works with & knows in the film industry.

Dude, they should get you on board as a script writer. I'd really like to see The Raid with Bazookas.

I've been anticipating seeing this movie for months after seeing the trailer and reading the reviews etc. I finally watched it about a week ago, and enjoyed it but was left feeling vaguely disappointed for some reason. I'm guessing it was all the hype, which of course, can't live up to reality most of the time. I wish I could have seen it "cold" so to speak instead.

I just bought this on bluray last night and watched it for the first time, it was epic..... Im a huge action film buff, im a huge film buff period. It comes down to you as an individual....

are you the type of person who feels you are owed? At all times?
or
are you the type of person who can subjectivly sit back and enjoy something without questioning, dissecting, or ripping apart ANY MOVIE?

This is the problem i have with this website and the general movie going public in general..

Half the people on here can enjoy a movie, knowing exactly that an international action movie such as this will not have the greatest story but will far surpass the action in most Hollywood movies

The other half for some reason has this elitist attitude that this movie and many others are beneath them, they rate the movie low, and they complain on the boards as if their complaints really make that much of a difference to anyone... as if suddenly we all will see things the way they do, and thank them for our years of stupidity and ignorance... I find this half of people pathetic

and the thing that i find the funniest is 90% of them are either teenagers, or some *beep* who sits around all day and does nothing but bash good/popular movies simply because others like them, what movies do they like? They never tell you..... prolly for a reason

Some of you seriously need to get a life and pop your head out of your oh so tight *beep*

yh same here, my brother bought it and we watched it. he enjoyed it, i didn't. in places it was brutal, but overall it didn't feel as overly violent as everyone said it was. i found Warrior King with Tony Jaa more brutal and theres a damn site less blood, plus they at least tried to make a story in Warrior King, in The Raid its pretty much none existant. i liked some of it, the action was quite well done, but i wanted some likable characters, not cardboard cut outs that kick things. if other people liked the film, thats fine, i just think theres a lot of better martial arts films out there.

a creative mess is better than idle tidyness.

I'm not sure what video games you are accustomed to playing, but please do recommend as I also wish to take part. Seriously, this film is a solid 8 with emphasis on action, it does not pretend to be high-tension thriller with a complex plot, although the high-intensity action and energy projected throughout the 90 odd minutes is nerve-jangling. The film is also a masterclass for directors on how to convey spatial-awareness throughout a film becuase not once was I ever lost in the towerblock all my bearings were made perfectly clear. This film is on par with Ip Man 1 & 2, Taken, Kiss of The Dragon, and I maybe going out on a limb here by reluctantly suggesting "Enter the Dragon" because much like these films, 'The Riad' achieves a lot in its logical story arc executed with purity of brilliance throughout

i wouldn't say its on par with ip man (i love that film) but i do hear were your coming from. there is obviously a market for this sort of thing and as reviews prove many people want to see more. but for me, the non stop action should have just stopped. just over halfway in i just became bored, once everyone so often brought back in by a few painful punches, kicks or stabs and it would go back to being repetitive. the end fight, although had some damn good choreography, lasted too long, and with the plot i guessed everything that was going to happen, i never really felt surprised. but like i said on my other post, if you liked then thats fine, but i just felt it was lacking. although i will call you out on saying its on par with enter the dragon, thats blasphemous :P

Then again, you seem to only enjoy kind of classical Hollywood movies.
