Did not deserve best picture

Is a well written and acted film with a great social statement, but simply cannot match the stylistic mastery and beautiful/brutal story of The Revenant.

reply

I strongly disagree.

The Revenant was 20 minutes too long and was needlessly boring. It was beautiful to watch, but dragged on.

Spotlight, on the other hand, completely sucks the viewer into the movie purely with it's dialogue and is a stunning movie to watch over and over again.

reply

I enjoy SPOTLIGHT where REVENANT was a bit lengthy, though we also (and the original poster)agree that THE REVENANT was beautiful..

The Best Picture Award--if not the Oscars, and award shows in general--are meaningless. The Oscar voters have a weird tendency to give the award to the safest, most predictable movie, and this certainly had Oscar-bait written all over it. A good film, but as you hinted at, suspenseless and with incredibly bland direction.

reply

The Revenant was more technically brilliant yes but Spotlight was far more gripping. It's more simplistic done and focuses on the story and characters. A simple film telling an excellent story

I hate the theme. I hate this overall hatred for religion. Everyone loves embracing feminism, which is far worse than any religion IMO. No one wants to expose the crimes of Jews against their own people and other people. BUT let's make a movie that could compel people to kill Catholics and blow up churches. That's ok.

reply

What does exposing the truth behind pedophile priests have to do with blowing up churches? You're making yourself sound like some overly sensitive Catholic pussy.

reply

Agreed. It was just an above average docudrama that belonged more on TV than anything. There was nothing particularly cinematic about it. Everything was lean and to the point and while it's refreshing how they chose not to overdramatize the story for once, it also makes for a very slow, somewhat dull film. It certainly won't be remembered as a classic, that's for sure. Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, and The Martian will all be talked about much more in the years to come.

reply

It's, however, a significant help in the solving of the pirest problem. proof that a usually liberal palce can get rid ogf other liberals (and yes, liberal is the term for the priests when they break the law.,)

Ta Ta!

Not sure I can agree with the ‘well written and acted’ part 😂. Personably, I found spotlight to be unbearably dull. Classic example of people voting for issue film making over quality film making.

reply

Had no idea it was an Oscar winner when I watched it. No more than an average movie about investigative journalism. Needs editing, and a tone that doesn’t make everyone seem so smug.
