Cool thing about this one is 80s Krang meets Krang Sub Prime!

Can't wait to hear them both together! Will be hilarious!

This is sure to be something special. I hope 80s April and Casey meet 2012 April and Casey as well.

The 1987, 2012 and Mirage turtles?! Hell yes, sign me up!!!! I agree though, this needs to be at least two parts. Also, introducing the human allies to each other would be a good excuse to give the '87 Casey another appearance since he only got to be in five episodes of the classic series.

reply

And I really hope he still has an urge to break things. 😀

I wonder if the new Raph will still like this guy's attitude.

@ MinimalistLiving: Yeah, that was always great. The episode featuring Casey that stands out to me the most is where he was put under mind control by an evil corporation and after the turtles snapped him out of it he smashed a surveillance camera just because he was pissed, "Hang on guys, I need to break somethin' ". If memory serves correctly, I think his involvement would also mean triple duty for Rob Paulsen since he will already be voicing '87 Raphael and 2012 Donnie as I'm pretty sure that he also voiced '87 Casey.

@ Times_Up: If anything 2012 Raph will probably like '87 Casey even more than the current version. Not that we're trying to break any hearts of course.

I'd like a crossover between the 2003 and 2012 versions. Or maybe a crossover with the 1987, 2003, and 2012 versions all together.

This episode was surprisingly good. It was weird to see '80s Krang actually use the abilities of his robotic body, but for obvious reasons, it had to be that way.

Kudos to Rob Paulsen, used his inflections to convey the difference between 80's Raph and 12' Donnatello, and the writers made sure not to overdo the Flanderdizaton of the characters the way Turtles Forever did. I loved how they tied it in with Wormquake! at the end.

I was also very, very wrong about Cam Clarke. He reprised his role excellently.

And it was an offense to the 80's-90's turtles, like the Turtles Forever movie-episode.

reply

Well, that was a huge disappointment. All it did was make me want to watch Turtles Forever again.

And while I've always been opposed to the new series being CGI, going by the quality of the 2D animation it was maybe a good thing. God. It's like they got some high school kids to draw the episode in Flash.
And that's not even mentioning the almost complete lack of animation in the Mirage scene. Embarrassing.

It was nice to have '87 Leo, Donnie, Mikey and Krang's original voice actors back again and the Mirage universe was also pretty sweet here and I thought that both classic universes and there respective turtles teams were pretty accurate despite the '87 dimension being somewhat modernized and the Mirage dimension and it's turtles being kind of stiff (and quiet) although I liked how it was done in the panels of a comic book page. Also, the '87 cast did look pretty cool in 3D and it was also nice to hear that show's score music again. I was hoping that 2012 Leo would warn Master Splinter not to tell the other 2012 turtles (the ones who were already in that time) that they had been there since it could damage the time line of that dimension. I'm sure sensei realized that though when he watched them disappear through the portal.

It wasn't terrible or anything like that. It's just that almost every part of it has been done before - and better IMO - in Turtles Forever. It's essentially a cut-down, worse made remake of TF. I did rewatch Forever right afterwards, and it does hold up much better.
That said, it was indeed nice to have the original 87 cast back (unlike the barely-soundalikes in TF), and the 87 soundtrack still rocks. I also think it treated the '87 Turtles more fairly, despite some below-the-belt punches at Krang.

Watch it here while it's still on.

Saw it. It was better than TURTLES FOREVER, though not by too much.

The 80s Turtles/Krang are thankfully more competent than how TF portrayed them, even though they are still wacky by current standards. But it was done in a more affectionate and respectful manner, rather than how TF tried to make the 2003 characters look better and less embarrassing in comparison. It helps that the classic voice actors are on board: TMNT has been very fortunate to have most of its voice cast still be around.

I thought that the Krang connection was a bit awkward. The 1987 Krang was his own character and never a member of the 2012 Kraang race. It seemed like a contrived way to get them together so that they could take on both Turtle teams.

The Mirage Turtles were awesome, though sadly they didn't speak.

The blend of hand-drawn, CG and comic-book art styles was fairly well-done.

All in all, it was a fairly enjoyable crossover. And there's going to be another one in the next season, with the 80s-2012 Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady meeting each other!

“Trans-Dimensional Turtles” was a remake of Turtles Forever with the current animated turtles filling in for their 2003 counterparts. Since I liked the original & didn’t have to buy a ticket to see it, I didn’t mind. This one is more respectful to 1987 turtles & even got all their voice actors back unlike Forever. Thanks to the magic of time travel, they even linked its conclusion to that of “Wormquake!” So it was slightly more fun than the average shelltastic episode. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/2016/04/06/better-things-than-batman-v-superman/

Well... that was a disappointment.

Whilst it was very, very nice to have the original voices again, along with the original Krang, the story really should have been spread over two episode, and given the same love as Turtles Forever was given. The story in that was far superior, as was the characterization and the humor too.

Not to mention, the "traditional" 1987 animation was horribly, horribly executed. If you're going to do that style, don't ever, EVER use such cheap flash animation techniques like stretch-and-squash; render each damn frame by hand, get the outlines and rendering right, or don't bother at all.

A wasted opportunity, really.

reply

Love??? Don't you mean hate? Take away all the 80's cartoon bashing and the runtime would be a lot shorter. Besides, they'll just get called out for ripping off TF. This is basically an apology for the maltreatment of the 80s characters in that movie (which was a series finale). I like that it gets to the point and doesn't overstay its welcome given that it's already been done, though in a more disrespectful way.

reply

Well, given that I'm not a hard-core fan of the original 87 turtles, and didn't mind the wrong voices, or the bashing of the corniness of the 87 cartoon, I do have to say I prefer Turtles Forever to this last TMNT 2012 episode; better pacing, more entertaining, and a more satisfying incorporation of the original comic turtles.

I get that this more recent episode is more faithful in regards to the voices and action of the 87 version, but that 2D artwork was atrocious, and the story rushed and flimsy. I also get that the original comic TMNT had static pictures, and so they stuck with that in the episode, but... this is a cartoon, not a comic. Make them move a bit! No Master Splinter from the 87 universe either.

Nope, this episode did nothing for me.
