Question about the Penguin

Did he do anything in this movie? He appears several times, but it doesn't seem like he actually did anything in regard to the plot. He wasn't the rat and he had nothing to do with the Riddler.

reply

His role was very minor. Perhaps he's a build-up to a bigger role in a later move? Who knows......

reply

That would be my assumption.

reply

It felt like they were setting him up as the big mob boss for a future movie. What with Falcone getting killed. It will help him gain power.

reply

Nothing at all. He's there completely just to set up a future story angle. This isn't a good movie. It's trying to use the Marvel formula to set up a franchise.

reply

Ya cause Marvel invented sequels. Great insight.

reply

IMO, he was there to provide some action. Without him, and the car chase scene, the movie with just a murder mystery, would have felt slow and disappointed a lot of the comic book movie fans.

reply

That car chase scene felt so out of place in this movie. It went on entirely too long.

reply

Would have been very brave of them to not have the Penguin and that level of action...

The movie would have been even more like The Joker if they had done that...

That could have really worked.

reply

He told Batman and Gordon point blank that "rat with wings" means "bat." Too bad nobody listens to him.

Oh, he also knows Spanish.

reply

The Penguin is a red herring. Which is ironic, since penguins eat herring.
