Am I Missing Something? (Batmobile Scene)

Everyone is praising the batmobile and the batmobile chase scene, but I don't get it.

All I hear is: "wait until you see this batmobile in action, you are going to be blown away," "best batmobile chase scene ever," "best/coolest batmobile ever," "best chase scene in cinematic history," "the trailers barely show anything," and so on.

Okay. I saw the movie and I've seen the batmobile scene a few times. What is so special about this batmobile and this chase scene?

All I got out of the scene was this batmobile has a loud ass engine, can go really fast and has a speed boost, is a muscle car, it stalls once in a while, and can ram/flip cars.

And all the scene was was Batman chasing Penguin and Batman showing off his driving skills and having dumb luck to get out of a few minor situations (like using the speed boost and a jump/ramp created by a destroyed semi to escape an explosion). The way everyone was hyping the scene, we'd see Batman trying to chase down Pegnuin and having to eliminate Penguin's henchmen in the process by using all the special features/additions Batman installed in the car, leading to some crazy moments and showing off what the batmobile is capable of doing.

Nope. This batmobile scene just seemed like something I've seen in hundreds of other (action) movies throughout the years, or I've seen like 50 times in the Fast & Furious movies. The scene was pretty much a chase scene ripped from a Fast & Furious movie and swap Vin Diesel or Paul Walker for Batman. And everything I learned about this batmobile, I listed already.

So am I missing a cut/version of this scene that everyone else is seeing, or is everyone overhyping it like they do all the time with other scenes in movies (Darth Vader scene in Rogue One, or the bus scene in Shang-Chi, for example)? After watching the scene, it seems like everyone never saw a Batman movie before or a chase scene or this is their first movie altogether.

The scene was shot well though. Unless CGI is getting up there again on being hard to tell what's practical and what's CGI.

And before I get all these comments telling me to go back and watch the Bale, Keaton, and maybe even the Affleck Batman movies, I did overall enjoy the movie. I'll be buying the movie on Blu-Ray the day it comes out (unless the stores take forever to put it out on the shelves like they have been since this whole virus stuff started). The batmobile scene just happens to be one of my negatives/nitpicks/complaints about the movies, and I'm only ranting on the one scene and not the whole movie. The movie is a minimum of 8/10, in my opinion.

Well, the bus scene in Shang-Chi was probably the best action sequence in that entire film...

So I think it's just a matter of different taste here. You didn't miss anything. It's not necessarily overhyped, just not your thing. This was a nicely filmed chase scene, and if you think you've seen it 50 times in the fast films or in hundreds of other action films then yeah, I'm not surprised it didn't seem that great to you because you're not differentiating very much across these movies.

It was no Bullitt or Ronin, but it was a very satisfying car chase scene for a Batman film.

I agree 100%

There is a handful of Battison bat-tards going on about how this is the greatest filmmaking achievement since film itself. More than likely they are all paid shills. Your opinion is valid. Dont let them gaslight you. Its a mediocre film at best.

You don't like this and I hated The Avengers movies. Different strokes.

I didn't understand the point of the scene. Batman knew where the Penguin worked and probably had a general idea where he lived. Why didn't he let Penguin drive off then catch up to him later? This could have spared countless people from dying/being injured in car accidents and from the explosion.

i thought it was very well done.
i am not a car chase person. i find them dreary and boring. i would rather do anything else rather than watch a fast and the furious movie.

but i thought it was genuinely exciting and really well staged.

i am not really a fan of this movie. lots to like about it, but i also thought it was muddled and weirdly incomplete in some ways for a 3 hour movie.

but i will give it full credit for looking fantastic. so much so that, even though i didn't really like it, i think i'm gonna go see it again this week because it's such a great big-screen experience.

The chase was entertaining, but certainly not mind-blowing.
