The biggest mistake this series made

Was trying too hard to be different from the Raimi films.

Gwen can't have her iconic death on a bridge because the first movie aped that for its climax with MJ

Norman can't be the first Green Goblin because the first movie did that

The Green Goblin can't be the primary villain for ASM2 because the first Raimi film did that so we have to make
Electron the primary baddie and force Harry as Green Goblin in the end

The Sam Raimi films focused on Peter's relationship with Uncle Ben, so let's make this about his parents who ditched him

This series' biggest mistake was being made in the first place.

Perhaps but I'd say it was focusing on stuff that they thought people cared about like Sinister Six or the mystery of Peter Parker's parents disappearing. But as it turned out, it's not that interesting. Whatever the plot was in Sam Raimi's movies, they all had a lot of heart and heavily focused on the relationships among its characters (maybe a little too much in the case of SM3). That is what kept people interested up to a point.

Not to repeat what I said before, but I never cared about Peter's parents because for all intent and purposes, Aunt May and Uncle Ben are Peter's mom and dad. They never factored into the equation because they didn't raise him or instill him with morals (such as "With great power comes great responsibility").

They had to take it a step further by suggesting that Peter was destined to become Spider-Man (since he was the only one who could've possibly survived being bit by a radioactive spider due to genetic predisposition provided by his dad, Richard). Before, Peter just happened to be a kid who was at the "right place at the right time" when he got bit by the spider.

And Emma Stone didn't show enough skin.

I am in the minority thinking these 2 movies are better than the Raimi films and better than the last 2 live action Spider-Man films.

The biggest mistake this series made was casting Andrew Garfield. He just doesn't look dorky enough. He's too cool. Too tall. Too long neck.
