Allison Pill (Maggie) over acts just about every scene.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Allison Pill over acts. I wish someone would just tell her..."hey...calm down, you don't need to look like you're out of breath in every single scene". She makes me feel like I am going to have a panic attack every time I watch her. I'm on the first season, so hopefully it gets better down the road?

She's playing an Aaron Sorkin professional woman ie she's crazy.

reply

I wasn't a fan of hers, I know her character is popular, but personally I never cared for her at all. She remains the same.

reply

I know her character is popular

 Eh? Who told you that? I actually like Pill as an actress, but Maggie was not a popular character...

reply

Every time I came on these boards people seemed to defend her. That said I never liked Maggie.

reply

Spending time on boards like this is like being in an echo chamber. The same posters sharing the same opinions over and over again until it seems like consensus. Nobody with any sense actually likes Maggie. At least not in those first two seasons..

From Season 1 to Season 3, my wife and I got a exactly same feeling-----please, Maggie, stay out of the scene, you just ruin every good aspect of this show.

reply

I don't agree with that assessment. I love the scene in Sports Night during the bomb threat where Dana and Natalie are the only ones not freaking out about it. When Dan and Casey challenge them, their response is, "we're women." And the explanation is that they always have multiple thoughts running through their heads, so they're not going to freak out over one more thing. I thought that was a very good description of how my brain works. I've had people tell me, "you look like you're always thinking." That seems like a very strange statement to me - isn't everyone always thinking? But that's when I realized that not everyone always has so MANY thoughts going through their head at the same time.

reply

With the characters of Will, MacKenzie and Charlie, you are concerned with Maggie's character as being overacted? It's a Sorkin television show. It is brilliant, but filled with over the top characters.

Agreed!

agreed 100%. Mortimer was awful the first two seasons (no leader/professional acts like she did for 2 years) but showed just a little normalcy in the final season and I liked her much more. Pill, on the other hand, was awful to watch all 3 seasons.

reply

She's the worst thing in an otherwise amazing series. I have no interest in all her drama, it's just annoying and takes up too much screentime.

reply

Allison is my fav stage actress. She is unbelievable. I just started watching this show and am disappointed that her character was written this way.

reply

She is an excellent actress. I first noticed her in Law & Order: Criminal Intent - and she never fails to impress. She was nearly flawless in the Africa episode.

Some people here cannot differentiate between actress and role.

I completely agree, she is so unattractive that it's bizarre to think Don and Jim would pine for her. I lost interest in the show but recently my husband was watching season 2 and I got a glimpse of Maggie with an ugly, short red haircut and boy was she a special kind of hideous! So ugly that I kind of stopped and stared in shock. Listen, everyone has the right to be ugly but it just makes the show so hard to watch when she's fug and over acts and hams it up in every scene!

Agreed. I'm binging on Amazon Prime and am halfway through season 2. Everytime she's on screen I just want to fast forward. Both her and Mack.
