Hawkes, not Hunt, deserved a nomination

That is all.

I disagree. I thought Helen seemed to give a richer, more spiritual performance. John was great, of course, but there were certain points I felt were a bit hokey

I was surprised that he wasn't nominated. He portrayed someone with a disability very well, and made it seem more of an approachable subject to explore.

A lot of people treat the disabled the way they treat the elderly in America. Throwaways..sad.

Edit: It's obviously because she got naked. Is that all that's required now?

I think they both deserved nominations. Quite frankly, I thoguht Hunt was gonna win before my heart was broken by Anne Hathaway.

I think you take out Denzel, Cooper, or dare I say Day-Lewis and replace him with Hawkes who gave a brilliant performance.

It's an electric drill. You get me, you kill me!

I could see the blurred lines and ethical dilemma, which she portrayed well. She spoke of transference, but not counter-transference, which I think would of been helpful to the audience. Otherwise, Hunt seemed somewhat mechanical. I wasn't moved by her performance, not even the fact that she was naked for most of her on-screen time. She was a tool for Hawke's brilliance as the character 'Mawk" (as she pronounced it, haha).

As for Anne, I agree with you. She stole the show, which is strange considering she is only in 30 minutes of the 3 hour film. If she doesn't win I will be surprised!

I'm sorry but it's not a competition, they'd be nominated in different categories.

In my opinion, they both deserved nominations.
Hunt was very subtle in her acting, that made it just that more powerful and natural.

Hawkes was simply incredible. A true actor who physically embodied his character, he was amazing. Definitely deserved a nomination instead of Bradley Cooper.

Hawkes was snubbed for sure

Hollywood likes to salute their success stories. Helen is a bigger name, and more people will tune in to see her if she's included. Maybe the field was overcrowded in his category, but it does seem a slight. It's not like they could only nominate one person from this movie. One filled with great performances.

agree

I don't think so. Hawkes came forward in the movie just because of his role. Oscar is not given to actors or actresses according to their role or position in the film.

I have no problems with Helen Hunt's nomination. Hawkes, though, should have received one as well.

These are my feelings exactly. Hawkes was great. Deserved a nomination. Hunt was very good though. I have no problem with her nomination. I thought she got better and better as the movie went on. Hawkes stood out for me though. If I saw this before the nominations came out I would have bet Hawkes got nominated for sure.

Who would lose a nomination then? Lewis was the best and deserved winner.
I thought Cooper was well deserved.
Washington, I thought he was very good too.

That leaves Phoenix and Jackman. Jackman is one of my favorites and I love Les Mis but I did not love his performance. Maybe I was expecting too much.

Phoenix, he was good but the movie was so bad horrible.

I would have preferred Hawkes over Jackman or Phoenix.

reply

They both were great, her category was just less competitive that year.
