How did Helen Hunt ...?

---Spoiler---
Achieve orgasm when he only lasts a few seconds? Does she take care of that herself?

reply

This part really took me out of the film and I was on board (so to speak) until this scene. The average woman is not going to orgasm with less than 30 seconds of penetration and no other stimulation.

Sold to the man in the cold sweat!

reply

Exactly and since he had zero experience and it was so unlikely, it killed any credibility.

reply

She was a pro. Probably she just said it to make him feel better and to make progress.

reply

Electrophile: Wrong. Some women I have effed have orgasmed before 30 seconds of penetration are up.

reply

Fair enough, but for most men, the lie "Ooohh baby, you made me (climax)" is useful and sufficient. It really doesn't matter to anyone but her if she did or not. And she'd be a rare bird if she did.

A man's erection is sometimes still hard after orgasm. All she has to do is continue to ride it until she achieves orgasm.

I am guessing you are male.

reply

Well duh

reply

Well, speaking for myself, I stay hard after my orgasms. I can keep going if she likes.

She's ruined my wedding. I will not look at her.

reply

Sue - that was exactly what I was thinking. That person, male or female, needs to study a little human anatomy.

well what u did not see was a cordless drill being used by the props man

the humming sound was buffered for the live shot and later edited out in post

editing, they used the drill to make the girl happy

reply

I don't see why anyone would nitpick about this. For one, it doesn't matter how it happened, the important part was that it did. And two, everyone's body is different. You don't know what kind of stimulation gets her off.

It does matter, it made their interaction seem absurd.

My guess is she faked it to boost his confidence; not unheard of.

reply

So what if she faked it? Her job is to build his sexual confidence. I imagine he wouldn't know the difference, so maybe she did. I still don't see why it matters. This wasn't a how-to, or a great romance, it was about Mark O'Brien exploring his sexual identity. What she did or didn't feel is irrelevant because he as the client got what he needed, which was more than intercourse.

Personally, I don't think she faked it. Judging by her reaction when Vera brings her the money (and the fact that she forgot it) shows me that she developed an attachment that was no longer professional. If it was all about achieving the "objective" she wouldn't have been so emotional.

reply

So what if she faked it?

Really and truly?

Seriously?

So WHAT, you say, if a sex therapist leads Mark O'Brien, or any man, to believe all it takes for a woman to achieve orgasm is 30 seconds of intercourse?

I say it does matter.

And if she did, (and we all saw she did) cross professional boundaries and get emotionally involved with a client, that doesn't lend credence to her having an orgasm the way we saw it.

That part of the movie fed the audience a load of crap by displaying typical Hollywood sex where the woman is "satisfied" with almost no stimulation.

reply

I think you're forgetting she started feeling an emotional attachment, even love, for him. I think that was the key to her being "satisfied". It's what she wanted.

Shhhh, don't tell the men, but very recent studies are showing that a majority of us women fake orgasm at one time or another. I know I have and I wish orgasm with a man were as easy as the movie erroneously depicted it.

reply

evelhussey, my sentiments the same. you are so right...

reply

you're wrong, she didn't fake it, I personally know a woman who trained herself to get an orgasm within seconds, it's all possible

reply

LOL. Helen Hunt wasn't actually having sex on screen, you know that right? I assume you meant Cheryl, her character, but as it's written it's kind of funny.

reply

Yes, her character.

reply

Sue - how long does it normally take you to orgasm?f

reply

They had foreplay, so it's not just a few seconds, and as a sex therapists, she probably knows her own sexuality very well, and when she's ready to go.

We don't see every part of what happens.

With a rifle, I suspect.

Haha! That caught me off guard and made me laugh out loud.

I'm imagining she probably stimulated herself whilst he was still in her *shrug*. And I'm not sure it was necessarily a Hollywood convention thing, her coming. Mark's narration described her orgasm at that point (like an all-day itch that's been scratched), so I'm thinking that may have been lifted/adapted from his original article (meaning it was likely true)?

reply

I remember him saying that she "held him inside her" after he orgasmed. I'm guessing that she stimulated herself while still straddling him and achieved her orgasm. I've done that before. It's not difficult.
