Were it possible to reside in a cyberpunk city...would you?

The two examples which come to my mind are Neo-Tokyo (of Akira) and 2019 Los Angeles (of Blade Runner).

It'd be dangerous and likely lead to a short life...but what the hell? Why not?

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

reply

You forget that the lights are pretty.

They need to get the cinematographer that did Nerve. That movie looked beautiful at night.

Or the cinematographer behind the Dredd reboot. That film was borderline beautiful. Or even a collaboration between the two of them.

reply

Not really, I mean, what's in common with a lot of cyberpunk cities is how much life in them sucks.

reply

And that's why you join the hackers or other rebel groups and fight the powah dude

.and then the bong hits him on the head and he falls RIGHT over the realitY

I think I would prefer the leafy cyberpunk suburbs.

*beep* no

reply

Of course not. Unless dystopian, Orwellian nightmare worlds are your bag.

reply

How about the "theme park" version which looks entrancing yet is free of all the baggage?

I Would. Whenever I travel I always kind of hope the city will be like Blade Runner.

Hell yeah! Who wouldn't want a flying car, high tech medical procedures, cool clothes, and a hot robot or clone as your slav... er.. I mean maid?!

Most people seem to think futures are dystopian, but who says? Just because the main characters in these movies always seem to be in trouble doesn't mean that its a terrible life for the average person living there. I would think a future city has all kinds of cool stuff.

I'd much rather go to the future than the past. If you caught dysentery in the past you'd just die. But if you get dysentery in the future you swallow a little nano-bot and you're all cured. They've probably cured aids and cancer too. At least in my imagined future they would.
