Why isn't Vangelis scoring this?

I couldn't find much online about it, it seems like he wasn't even offered the job?

Frankly Vangelis sucks now. Johanssen is a better choice.

You hit on it, now Vangelis' music is OTT and orchestral, mainly due to the ROMpler's he is using vs brilliant Yamaha CS-80 he used on the original BR OST. His music now does NOT fit what they're trying to do with 2049 and there's no way he could try to go back and use a CS-80 now, I am sure he thinks the sound is dated.

I didn't realize Ridley Scott isn't actually directing this. That's almost certainly a factor as well.
