Why isn't Vangelis scoring this?
I couldn't find much online about it, it seems like he wasn't even offered the job?

shareSaw Gosling was attached and dropped out.
shareExactly. I saw that stupid face of his and decided this film will suck. Which it will.
I came, I saw, I laughed, I left.
I'll still go see it probably...depending on early trustworthy reviews.
But Gosling is such a non-event, I don't understand why he is cast so much when there so many better similar looking actors.
He likely doesn't want to repeat himself, and I am sure he made that very clear at an early stage, just to make sure he wasn't approached..and I am sure the new composer will do a great job..though or course not coming near Vangelis' score for the original, as that was one in a million stroke of genius.
shareHe's pretty old now. Might not be in the best health anymore.
"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"
I see nothing wrong with simply recycling the score from the first film, with some minor tweaks. I'm sure fans of the original would love it. It really works for the trailer..
Fabio Testi is GOD

They simply didn't ask him.
That's what Vangelis had to say:
Vangelis himself wasn't asked to score Blade Runner 2, and he's OK with that. "You can never repeat certain things," Vangelis says. "It's only once in a lifetime. It's like doing another Chariots Of Fire. It's impossible."
Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for.
shareOutrageous! Hopefully the music is a homage...

So true, and so depressing if you guys compose music. You sometimes don't even know how the heck you made it in the first place it's THAT good.
Blade Runner and Chariots come to mind... juts so good... even Vangelis knows this himself. So true and yet so sad.

Well, that sucks. The first one had the trifecta: direction, cinematography, but especially score. Can't imagine it without it.
shareWell, it's easy to say that in retrospect. Wasn't that sure a bet at the time.
I'd say this one has the trifecta, too: With Villeneuve directing, Roger Deakins on cinematography and Jóhann Jóhannsson scoring, you've got 2 incredibly exciting "new(ish)" talents that have been outputting amazing work consistently and one proven professional.
I firmly believe in 20, 30 years we'll be talking about them as we talk about the greatest from heyday, today.
