Good Actors in Ridiculous Scenarios

I’m enjoying the actors but not so much some situations:
floating on upside down tug boat after collision with “ghost” ship;
Way too lengthy prostitute/sadistic scene;
Dumb sword fight duel on ship with Sp turning his back not once but twice on crazy guy;
Sp and Al affording luxurious ship lodgings;
Sad female Indian story line that has not connected to Duttons;
How easy it was for three priests to find her in the Badlands, a huge, cavernous place.
Don’t think story was anywhere as good as 1883. Think Taylor Sheridan has already saturated the market with his western tale.
Again, the acting has been better than 1883 cast but slowwwwww story. I agree with another post that it does seem a 5 year voyage!

The ghost ship scene makes no sense. They were seen moving away from the ghost ship for quite some time, then they lost power and somehow the ghost ship caught up them and hit their ship.

The prostitute stuff is not needed as well as the Indian story. I bet if you cut out all the superfluous drama you could probably edit it down to a 3 hour movie.

Acting is definitely better I dont think that 1923 is better or worse than 1883.

The big question is, is Harrison going to return for a second season or will he be killed off?

Dude, I just watched this episode and was thinking EXACTLY THE SAME THING! So many things wrong with that scene...

I watched 1883 last year, so I thought I'd give 1923 a try, and was rather enjoying it until episode six descended into soap opera territory!

We'll have to take it for what it is and not think too much about the rationality behind everything. The bit with Spencer and Alexandra in Africa would feel completely disconnected from the main story if Spencer wasn't a Dutton. It plays out like a pure romance novel for women, but Mr. Sheridan's stories tend to be ambitious when it comes to appealing to the viewer's fantasies.
The lenghty sadistic scene was there to make it clear to everyone who the bad guy is and really hammer it in.

I think the Indian stuff ties forward to Yellowstone but I do agree there is too much of it and it is depressing to watch. The Priests finding them is a but too convenient. The Priests don't strike me as cowboy types yet seem to be very adept at living in the wilderness.

The trip from Africa to America is taking way too long and I am losing interest. How much more could possibly go wrong without killing them? The sword fight was stupid and I doubt the other man's father would have allowed it to happen, Spencer even declares he is a professional killer and his son should not fight him.

The scene with the prostitutes and especially the spanking scenes is just too much and unnecessary.

I think the story could have been a lot tighter which in turn would have made it better.

And we just know that eventually Spencer will arrive at the ranch in the nick of time as it is about to be taken or the bad guys are laying siege and will go all Rambo to save it.

I really enjoyed the first half of the show. Bit of a western with a Legends of the Fall sort of b story. But after the boat sank it started getting really weird.

The priest leader refers to the three priests as “capable men.” They might’ve had some cowboy/law enforcement background

The Indian subplot did go a little excessive with the torture/abuse
