I wish this show would start being as good as it ust to be

the first 2 seasons where brilliant the 3rd season was okay but season 4 and most of season 5 has been terrible very boring and the jokes just not funny anymore, the first time this show was good in nearly 2 seasons was when Megan fox was on and it's really too bad she couldn't stay on permanently she makes the show a lot better

reply

It has. It returned to the quality of season 2 hysterics with "Road Trip" - the interactions of all the 5 together rivalled the group chemistry that it started with in season 1. Jess high in "A Chill Day In" was absolutely hilarious. Jess getting everyone to play True American in "Wedding Eve" was the perfect callback to Season 1/Season 2 - especially "The Cooler".

Season 3 was the low-point, and then Season 4 and 5 had glimmers of the brilliance it once had. Season 4's "Background Check" for instance was one of the best episodes they've ever done. And the last 6 episodes of season 5 have me pretty convinced the show is back.

I completely agree. The Wedding Vows episode had me rolling especially the way Schmidt was being sarcastic

reply

It was a fantastic ep. I loved how both Winston and Nick were unable to understand Schmidt's sarcasm. I love those little touches that demonstrate why they are friends. I also liked the whole "birdshirt" conflict Winston had with Sam; Nick and Winston get obsessed about things in the same weird way.

S1 & S2 really were the best & most memorable seasons for me. Not sure what happened to the show since then :/

reply

Not sure what happened either. A lot of people said the problem was Nick & Jess getting together, but that doesn't seem like it to me. It's like the writers thought the show got too dramatic or something so they only wanted to write light, joke-y plots for all the characters instead of S1/S2 plots that were still funny but leaned harder on dramatic elements. Could you imagine them doing a serious episode like "Injured" or "Chicago" now? Doubt it.

There was a tone shift in the show in S3/S4. I heard someone speculate it's because a lot of the female staff writers that used to write for the show during S1/S2 left around S3.

reply

in agreement with yu there...and the three guys just get more and more annoying as it goes on...they must be the alter ego's of the writers

but zoey makes it worth watching

Comedy just has an half-life. I kind of liked season 4 when they got finally rid of the whole relationship crap among the friends, and here and there they had some great ideas. But like *all* comedy shows, they have to get more and more outrageous to find new stories, and even then they have to split the team to get a different situation than before. I wish US tv was as honest as british and just stop after two or three great seasons, leaving behind a classic rather than a concept ridden to death.
Big Bang Theory failed the same way. How I Met Your Mother as well. And also Modern Family. All great shows slowly decaying throughout their run.

reply

Wait... what? When does Megan Fox come out? I'm already in season 4, and I havent seen her.

reply

I think she shows up in s05e06, since the title of that episode is also her characters name :)

reply

I am not going to like, Megan was not as bad as i thought she would be. I hate her as a actress because she can't act but maybe because the show has gotten pretty stupid she wasn't so bad. Just wish they didn't put her with Nick.

reply

It's going through the motions for sure.

putting Megan Fox on the show just sums up how their writing this show now lolol. And I think i remember reading about most of the original writers leaving around S3....makes sense...the show kinda lost its charm already in S3, sadly :/
