Fake photo

I have only one question: what's the EXACT detail that gives away that the picture was fabricated?

I've watched the clip but it's hard to tell 'cause it's a matter of 2 seconds for the audience to see what Richard Gere is looking at, when he analyzes the two different pictures.

Now, Jimmy's lawyer drives through the tunnel, gets his receipt, with that he prints out and notarizes a request for evidence, he gets a photo of HIS car (he doesn't use Jimmy's car. I'm sure of that. The two license plates don't match) at the toll.

Later they all notice something odd (and that's what I'm missing here) about the two pictures and Tim Roth's character, along with the DA, lie to the Judge and claim that the actual tape has been lost (since he would've proven the ILLEGAL fabrication of a piece of evidence).

Once again: WHAT'S THE DETAIL THAT MAKES RICHARD GERE SMILE AND MAKES THE JUDGE SAY "THEY LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT TO ME TOO"?

I mean, what is it? Is it a matter of shadows that don't match? Did the lawyer take the tunnel at the exact same hour when the police claim Jimmy did?

Thanks to whoever can answer the question.

The fake picture had a pixelated license plate, showing that it had been digitally altered.

I'm surprised you didn't notice how the one manipulated photo had really coarse pixels. I had thought they overdid it in the movie - but I guess not, if it wasn't obvious to you. it was so grossly pixelated that even a casual user of of any paint program like photoshop could do much better job at faking it.

I thought it was about the cars being the same but the license plates different
