You mean the Simon who was slowly trying to take over Anna's life and mold her into what he wanted her to be by making her "lay off" things she liked (e.g. whiskey, sugar) under the guise of fitness and a healthy lifestyle? Who knows what other changes he would want to implement once they were married. Notice the difference in her parents when around Simon versus Jacob and how they don't seem to recognize their daughter around the "sex pot".
Simon could of at least asked Anna's father for her hand in marriage before his clumsy grandstanding proposal that clearly troubled her parents.
I didn't think Simon was a bad guy, but I really didn't think he was the right guy for Anna. She did not seem like herself with him. That is what her parents noticed and why they would prefer her with Jacob. However, regardless of if Anna stayed with Jacob or not, I don't think she would return to Simon. I think she would need to move on completely again to someone new. She was only dating Simon 6 months when he proposed and that whole relationship seemed more so about convenience to me. Wasn't he a neighbor or something? And I know they had been friends for 3 years. Obviously friendship can turn to romance but in this case I think it was very one-sided.
At least with Jacob and Sam I could see them being happy together in the future. I really cannot see that with Anna and Simon.
Simon was hot but generic looking imo, while Jacob was beautiful, but I guess I am biased because I love Anton Yelchin in all his movies and think he's ethereally lovely while not overtly sexy. Jennifer Lawrence and Felicity Jones have very similar long faced features and are both quite basic looking tbh. Lawrence is hotter though, there's something in the way how she carries herself.
