Top Gun III predictions

-it will star Tom Cruise - I get the impression from interviews, 35y wait etc that Cruise didnt really want to do a sequel for whatever reason (probably thought it was too cheesy for modern day audiences, or it'd be too predictable or something) and had to be talked into it by Bruckheimer and the Oblivion director* who finally cracked the story with Chris McQ. However now TG:M is the most successful film of his entire career (by some margin 1.5b, next biggest was MI:Fallout with 800m and of course TG1 did about a billion ww when adjusted) its safe to say he'll be back .. unless he's like 'nope we done 2 great movies like Terminator 1 & 2 we not gonna ruin the moment with a dud 3rd' in which case I could see Paramount still going ahead even without Cruise as it will still probably make like 800m even with a lesser A list name headlining, or even Miles Teller (in which case even a reluctant Cruise would probably jump back in for another 100m payday and to stay relevant/compete in todays Marvel/DC world, plus he does countless MI sequels with Paramount, and its not like TG:M was high art really, .. Just have to crack another fun script out with Maverick and the same cast)

-It will be made after Cruise finishes MI8 (Dead Reckoning Part 2). In which case McQ and Oblivion guy probably working on script right now

-they'll bring in a big retro 80s-90s A list star (along with returning TG:M cast) similar to Cruises age for Maverick to butt heads with (maybe even be the big baddie like a dark side Maverick gone rogue) someone like Kevin Costner, Richard Gere, Michael Keaton, Stallone, Arnold , or even Mel Gibson (although all probably too old now). Or the later day A stars like Brad Pitt, RDJnr, Depp, Bale, Matt Damon, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Chris Pine, Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, Josh Brolin etc

-It will be even bigger MI style stunts/action/flying - possibly even abit 'out there' (space? But he's already going to do that. UFOs? c'mon would they dare go there?... nah. Top Gun is too 'real world' for that) Cruise will insist on pushing the boundaries: bring A game/give 101%/never phone it in (otherwise no point in doing a 3rd)

-An 'Empire Strikes Back' style twist - if TG:M is like 'A New Hope' (or The Force Awakens) thematically then TG3 will be based around an ESB style plot - maybe Viper only told Maverick what happened to his father 'from a certain point of view' and Mavericks father will turn out to be not dead or something (and played by Robert Redford)

-It will have another subtitle to do with Top Gun lore like "Top Gun: Danger Zone" ..

(*regarding the Oblivion director I read through the imdb trivia where it seems Cruise asked just about every other director to direct after Tony Scott died - Ridley, Martin Campbell, Joe Johnson, Simon West all declined.. before he presumably settled on Oblivion guy after he pitched him a way to do the movie .. youd think he would be one of the first guys having already recently done a big movie with him.. same with others like McQuarrie, Brad Bird, the Edge of Tomorrow/Bourne guy)

Skydance Media, which produced “Top Gun: Maverick,” is reportedly considering buying National Amusements, the holding company that controls Paramount Global.

How much money exactly did they make with this movie?

Im hoping for a large black cast, or extremely diverse cast.

Top Gun Maverick was just fine in that regard but I'm sure you don't care as long as there's less white people are on screen. 🙄

They have 30+ years of script ideas to develop. For a long time, the sequel was supposed to be about drones replacing humans (this figures into the beginning of the movie with Harris' character). This is where I'd expect them to pick up. Oddly, the suicide mission in TG:M seemed perfectly suited for drones.

TG:M plays on Boomer fantasies of an older, wiser man dominating Millennials and Gen-Zers. The sequel could be an even older, wiser man dominating technology. "It's the pilot, not the plane."

Glenn Powell will have a bigger role as his star power has increased significantly.

Top Gun: Twisters

I actually don't think they'll bring in an A-lister from the 80s-90s as they'll want to put the younger stars more in the spotlight.
