To be quite honest, complaining that there are different races and women in this movie is just as annoying as when people complain that there isn't enough.
Yeah, I'm looking for perfect realism in a movie about a 60 year old 5'7" guy flying a fighter jet on a New Hope mission that a drone can't do because "reasons."
🤣
There's minorities and women in this film. Time to untwist your panties.
Idiot. Re-read my post, it’s not the presence of women and minorities, it’s their quantity in a batch of elite American fighter pilots that is unrealistic.
Also, the issue with wokism is that it’s a political ideology forced into entertainment to propagandise the audience. It’s everywhere and it’s killing movies. Stop pretending you don’t know this. Stop trying to gaslight. Stop being an idiot.
Again, if you're looking for realism, WTF are you doing watching Top Gun?
If I can accept the premise of the movie, I really don't give a fuck what the people look like. Give me this team or give me Hollywood and Wolfman and Merlin again. I don't give a fuck. You tards are just as annoying as the other side.
"Its killing movies." LOL yeah, they sure are suffering with the team they ended up with 🤦♂️
And aren't you the poster who made some weird Cruise-dick-sucking rant about how unwoke this film is? So which is it?🤔
Because it's a popular buzzword that he thinks he can arbitrarily toss around so he can use as a trump card in an argument. 🤦♂️ It's very similar to when women start tossing around "mansplain" when there's a disagreement with a man.
I know exactly what it means and I’ve used it accurately every time, dickhead. If you can’t see that then you don’t know what it means. Total self-own.
That’s one of several errors you made in that ‘sentence’ you tried to write, moron. It could be forgiven if the content had any substance but, of course, it doesn’t. Just a massive self-own on every level 🤦🏻♂️
"Again, if you're looking for realism, WTF are you doing watching Top Gun? "
You're an idiot. Everything in a work of fiction should be "like reality unless noted." It doesn't matter how outlandish the premise is. For example, gravity should be in effect (unless noted otherwise), so if Tom Cruise's character were to take off flying without the aid of an aircraft, and without any explanation whatsoever, that would be bad writing. The writer wouldn't get a pass because a simpleton like you points to an unrealistic element of the premise to try to suggest that if one thing can be unrealistic then anything and everything can be.
On the other hand, in a Superman movie, it's fine for Superman to fly because it's part of the premise; it's a departure from reality that's been noted/explained. But if, e.g., Lois Lane flies without explanation, that's bad writing.
"If I can accept the premise of the movie, I really don't give a fuck what the people look like. Give me this team or give me Hollywood and Wolfman and Merlin again. I don't give a fuck. You tards are just as annoying as the other side."
That's because you're day-old dumb. The "You expect realism in a movie where blah blah blah happens??" crowd, along with the "It's just a movie!" crowd, comprise the lowest common denominator on movie forums.

A-FUCKING-MEN!!!!!!!! VERY well said I'm going to bookmark your response so I can use it myself. 👍👍

Realism in movies hasn't existed for decades. Frankly I don't think I can recall the last movie I saw that didn't suffer from Hollywood's version of realism which is void of actual realism. Go count bullets in gun fights, watch as machine guns are shot with one hand and no run rise, see the little spark fly every time a bullet hits anything including trees, watch as a shotgun flings a body 10 feet across a room, listen to the tires squeal as the car's tires slip on gravel, notice the person falls lifeless from a single shot regardless of where it hits them.... Realism has never been part of Hollywood, only now when the realism is leaving the demographics it is just more noticeable to everyone.
Realism still exists in certain movies. One coming to mind is The Fate and the Furious. The others in the franchise were over the top and ridiculous but that one was grounded in reality
Of course movies can contort reality but the point here is that they are being distorted to fit the woke agenda, and that’s a problem for anyone who doesn’t like their entertainment infected with political propaganda.
It’s not really that far off if you go by enlisted, whites enlisted in the navy make up 50-60%. There was 13 fighter pilots in the film and 6 of them were white men. Women make up about 15-20% of enlisted navy and there’s two women pilots. There’s 3 black pilots which is also in line with the percentage of African Americans enlisted in the navy. What it does have wrong is an underrepresentation of Hispanic people and over representation of Asians based off the percentages.
Now I am going off enlisted numbers not officer numbers which they would be for top gun training so that’s about 80% white so while it doesn’t reflect the officer rankings it does represent the navy diversity as a whole quite well.
Elite fighter pilots is not the same as the navy as a whole. All male, and nearly all white would be accurate. The first film had it right, there was no need to add token women and non-whites.
Did you bother to look at the links you posted? Out of the 40 people on the "Our Team" list, only ONE woman is an actual pilot, the rest are either public relations or in some other service role.
You actually prove Drooch's point with those links.
He's right about the Blue Angels, though, there are no female pilots. All male pilots.
In the Thunderbirds they do have the one female. And even that's kind of suspect. But two out of 13 plus the other diversity hires is definitely pushing beyond what's reflective of real-life, either in occupation or in interests from those demogrpahics.
But this movie never emphasized the race of any of the characters in any way, which is a massive point in its favor. We weren't subjected to the usual Hollywood archetypes. Even if the racial demographics of the fighter pilots didn't match reality, their race was entirely incidental. I'll take it. We should all be ecstatic that they took this approach. Imagine what a jackass like Alex Kurtzman would've done with this film. Maverick would have been riddled with doubt, female characters would have harassed him about perceived sexism, minority characters would've badgered him about white male privilege (e.g. minority pilots with such a record of insubordination would long ago have been cut loose, they'd say), etc.
This thread is making the point that for a refreshingly non-woke film there is nevertheless still some wokeness in there.
I love the film and can live with the small amount of wokeness, but any and all wokeness must be called out, until it is stamped out utterly from Hollywood.
None of those are examples of wokeness. I found this film distinctly non-woke to be perfectly honest. Of the diverse cast, none were given lines to admonish whiteness, nor to complain about the white hierarchy and/or white supremacy. There was also a distinct lack of transexuals in the film.
I think that's picking at nits.
I dont have a problem with a diverse cast. It wasn't like the movie even mentioned it. They were picked because they were the best pilots.
Its not a documentary, its to entertain. If someone enjoys the movie more because it has someone of their background in the cast, so be it.
There were absolutely no woke themes in movie at all.
If someone enjoys the movie more because it has someone of their background in the cast, so be it.
That's never been true and there are no material statistics to back up that point. It's a propaganda lie you've been fed and believe because it's been told to you so much you believe it.
Check India and China's box office; they don't care about American films with token Indians/Chinese in them, the movies that bring in the biggest box office over there are movies that align with being entertaining within their culture first and foremost.

Your examples show how different a world we live in compared to 35 years ago.
In 1986 ZERO women were allowed to be U.S. fighter pilots. The orig Top Gun only had a sexy female to bang or a dim witted devoted Navy wife.
In 2022 women are allowed to be Navy fighter pilots. The new Top Gun represents them appropriately.
As far as different races comeon get real I was in the Air Force for 24 years there were plenty of fighter pilots of different races even in the 80's. The big difference I saw between Air Force pilots and Air Force non pilots was that the pilots were a whole lot smarter than everybody else.
When it comes to winning a fighter jet battle, it all comes down to which pilot can withstand those 9gs for longer. And- as with any physical comparisons- women perform much poorer than men of similar sizes. When it comes to physical effort women can have abundant drive, but the power is simply not there.
Actually in the Navy the percent of pilots that are women is 7%, but the vast majority of those women aren't flying combat plane they are more likely than not flying transport planes.
Talk about being WOKE. Prime example of wokeness with some of these replies. Yes I also found it strange with the make=up of the cast. Nowadays entertainment has to go through a check list. Woman check, mexican check, blacks check again. Guess they couldn't figure out how to use a trans. Guess today if a person's opinion doesn't match yours that their wrong. That's also being woke. Why can't all liberals just move to Calif and New York and leave the rest of the country alone?
Wow tried to find if there ever was a "TOP GUN" female pilot, closet thing is one who made the Thunderbirds...that's it. Navy Seals only one woman (what is a woman) passed the course but never chosen to be om a team. Nothing wrong about that, so if that's the case the casting in this movie was make believe.
There's a lot besides the cast that is make believe, including the plot.
Did you believe there is such thing as a Top Gun trophy? That's not a thing either, but I accept it as part of the movie. Explain how this is different.
It's a fictional movie. Make believe. That's what makes it movie. It's not a documentary.
Wow really a Hollywood movie that isn't all true? Gosh get a life, this wasn't the history of Top Gun. Why not bring up the course they were practicing on was the exact pattern as the other country. Unless you believe that country allowed us to use it. God some people are never happy.
That's exactly what I'm saying. Everybody is like "Oh my God there's a woman as a top fighter pilot, that would never happen!"
...Along with 90% of the movie.
If we all agree that this isn't real, why is everyone drawing the line at a woman or a non-white person being one of the top pilots as a matter of realism?? 🤔
The clear difference, as I’m sure you’re aware, is that the distortion of reality in the case of ‘diversity’ is part of the woke agenda infecting the film - that’s what we’re discussing here, remember?
You still never answered my question. Did you prematurely suck Cruises dick in that weird ass rant post about how unwoke this is and are now trying too hard to bitch about it?
Got your head stuck up his ass about being unwoke, now posting with your panties in a twist about wokeness in this film. It's like you don't know WTF you're doing.
woman shouldnt be allowed to be fighter pilots because they are too valuable. men are replaceable and can be written off when lost in war. letting woman join the army is barbaric and gives them less rights then they used to have
IRL, there are female fighter pilots, but the very best are all men and it is due to basic biological differences. Men are much better at spatial relationships than women, which is VERY IMPORTANT in dogfighting. Also, men are more likely to possess the killer instinct than women. Flying well is one thing. A fighter pilot also has to be willing to smoke an enemy if need be.
I was ready to scream "wokeness" too but I think they handled it really well. It's realistic, as it shows in our own time, that 30 years later the cadets would be more diverse. It didn't feel force to me at all. Very natural. And as for the women, I am so tired of the strong women makes the men look dumb in order to look better trope. I was, honestly, waiting for it to happen during the dog fight where the woman was going to be the only one to beat Maverick. Surprisingly, they didn't go that route and it really made me happy. The film chose story over politics and I really appreciated that. And I really liked Phoenix. Should they do decide to make a sequel, I would be happy to follow another story with her.
